No pumpkin pie at the first Thanksgiving. The colonists had no ovens to bake one in, and their sugar supply was nearly gone. What they did with pumpkin was stew it, or fill the hollowed shell with milk, honey, and spices and roast it in ashes. The slice on your plate today is a much later invention.

Night 4 of 26.

Pumpkin in a shell over a fire. I'd try it exactly once, out of respect. Team pumpkin pie, or do you reach for something else first?

The sales floor is the pitch. The backroom is the truth.

How a business actually runs shows up behind the scenes: who follows through, what gets skipped, what everybody quietly works around.

I am the main character and my 19 year old Chihuahua is the scene stealing supporting role. She did not audition. She just took it. Free senior dog note in bio.

Holiday home, on the horizon. The bells, the trees, the little pieces that make the whole room feel like Christmas is coming.
Which piece is coming home with you?

Small gifts, big surprises. These are the little Target finds I would actually gift, not just grab on my way to the register.
Which one would you gift?

Nobody on the Mayflower ever mentioned landing on a rock. The Plymouth Rock story first shows up in 1741, when an elderly man pointed at a boulder and said his stepmother told him the first settlers stepped on it. That's the whole evidence. The rock has been chipped, moved, and carved ever since.

America took a story with no proof and literally carved it in stone. I respect the commitment. What's a family story everyone swears is true but nobody can prove?

She is 19 and she still works for it.

Green puzzle board on the tile, nose into one yellow square and then the next, all the way across the tray.

She does not rush it and she does not quit. 12 seconds of a very old dog who is very sure she can get that treat out.

Follow along for more of her.

Everything we know about the first Thanksgiving comes from a few paragraphs Edward Winslow wrote in a letter, printed in a 1622 pamphlet meant to attract more settlers. It's the only eyewitness account of the feast that survives. He described the food and the guests. He never called it Thanksgiving.

Three days of history, and it survives because one man wrote a letter home. If one letter was all that survived of your family holidays, what would it say?

Your body moves before your brain has finished the sentence.

It really does just say I will explain later, move. Every one of us has had that moment where you are already halfway across the room before you know why.

What's your comfort-run essential? by @thegentlemuse2026

In the fall of 1621, the Plymouth colonists and the Wampanoag shared a harvest feast that ran three days. Roughly 50 colonists and 90 Wampanoag men. The food we actually know about: venison, wild fowl, fish, and corn. Turkey might have been there, but nobody wrote it down, and there was no pie, no mashed potatoes, no cranberry sauce.

Night 1 of 26.

The holiday started as a harvest party with the neighbors, and honestly that version sounds better than half the ones I've sat through. What's the one dish that has to be on your table or it isn't Thanksgiving?
