The explanations can become incredibly elaborate for something that would take a few seconds to do. A person might be busy, forgetful, nervous, or having an ordinary difficult week. Eventually, though, the question becomes less about imagining every possible reason and more about whether the conversation feels mutual.

There is a difference between allowing somebody room to have a life and doing all the work of keeping a connection alive. One quiet day is ordinary. Constantly inventing the next opening line while waiting for interest to arrive can get very tiring.

The phone does not need to light up all afternoon. It would simply be nice if you were not always the person pressing send first.
