NBC REAFFIRMS COMMITMENT TO ELECTORAL INFORMATION INTEGRITY AT NATIONAL SUMMIT
The National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) has reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding electoral information integrity ahead of the 2027 general elections, emphasising the need for stronger collaboration among stakeholders to tackle misinformation, disinformation and AI-generated content.
The Director General, Mr. Charles Ebuebu, was represented by the Deputy Director, Public Affairs and Head of Digital Switchover, Mrs. Clementine Usman-Wamba, at the national summit themed “Beyond the Ballot: Safeguarding Electoral Information Integrity in the Age of AI,” held in Abuja on 2 November 2026.
Speaking during the panel session, “Protecting Electoral Information: Who Verifies, Who Communicates, Who Responds?”, Mrs. Usman-Wamba noted that NBC is adapting to the evolving media landscape, stressing that content must be followed wherever it goes. She called for stronger collaboration among regulators and relevant institutions to ensure a coordinated response to emerging threats.
She also highlighted the Commission’s establishment of a Special 2027 Election Monitoring Committee to monitor election coverage and respond promptly to violations involving hate speech, deepfakes and misinformation.
The public can report suspected broadcast violations through
