In June 2017, 13-year-old Karanbir “Karan” Cheema was at his school in Greenford, west London, when a classmate flicked a small piece of cheese at him, and it went down his collar. Karan had severe allergies to dairy, wheat, eggs and nuts, and he quickly went into anaphylactic shock. He d*ed in hospital on July 9, 2017, with his family by his side.⁠ ⁠ The other boy, also 13, was arrested but never charged. At the inquest in 2019, the coroner described it as a “childish and thoughtless act” that “was not calculated to cause serious harm.” She also found that the school’s allergy care had been inadequate. Karan had only one EpiPen at school, and it was 11 months out of date.⁠ ⁠ His mother said she had taught him to read all about his condition and that he could have been “anything he wanted.” The coroner sent warnings to nine organisations, including the school and UK government departments, to help prevent similar tragedies.

خودم رو تو آینه نمی‌شناختم…🥺 ترانه علیدوستی از روزهایی میگه که بیماری پوستیش زندگی‌اش رو زیر و رو کرده بود. ترانه میگه فکرش رو هم نمی‌کرد یه بیماری نادر بتونه این‌قدر از پا بندازتش اون روزها هر بار تو آینه نگاه می‌کرد، دلش می‌خواست همون صورت آشنای هر صبح رو ببینه. سخت‌ترین بخشش این بود که نمی‌دونست دوباره شبیه خودش می‌شه یا نه. اون میگه صبر کردن برای جواب همین سؤال، براش سخت بود. کم‌کم موهاش دوباره دراومدن و چهره‌اش به حالت عادی برگشت. آخرش هم همه‌ی اون روزها رو تو یه کلمه خلاصه می‌کنه «برگشتم🤍» . 🎥 BBC Persian YouTube
