There’s a reason a lot of companies would rather employees keep their salaries to themselves.

When pay stays private, it’s much harder to notice when a new hire is earning more than someone who’s been there longer, or even more than the person training them.

Those gaps often come down to negotiation and timing, since new hires are usually paid based on today’s market while existing employees get smaller yearly raises.

Data from the Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta has consistently shown that people who switch jobs see bigger pay growth than those who stay put.

In the US, most private sector workers are legally protected when discussing pay with coworkers under the National Labor Relations Act, and in the UK, contract terms can’t stop workers from sharing pay details to check for pay discrimination.

More places are also passing pay transparency laws, from US states requiring salary ranges in job listings to new rules across the European Union.

I've had employees making way more than me and I have no problem with that. Sorry that you only have a one cycle brain.

You dont get what you deserve. You get what you negotiate.

Can’t be mad at it. Company is paying what the position is worth not what you’re worth. Time to start leveling up your skills and not depend on a company

One of the things I really liked about public service is the compensation transparency and security in annual merit and COLA increases, as long as you are performing proficiently. There is room to negotiate, but everything is transparent.

I negotiated a higher salary and was making more than most of my entire team when I started...not my fault 🤷🏻‍♀️

Why would they employ someone at a higher salary if he is subordinate to the supervisor? Surely it should have been “sorry we can’t meet that salary” Appalling.

Asking genuinely here. My gf is in this situation. Has been a PCA at her hospital for 2yrs and found out that the new hires that they task her with training are at a higher salary than she is even with the training pay. What should she do? She is actively job searching now, but is there something she can do in the meantime?
