Joseph Paul Gerges

Quentin Blacks’ work falls somewhere between glass engineering and brilliant alchemy. His deep understanding of the technical processes involved in glass fusing has made him vital to other artists’ practices as well. His sculptural work is a glass and metal sculpture that clearly showcases the collision of these two worlds.

This piece reflects a transition for me, translating a longstanding interest in automotive design and mechanics into a new medium. By recreating an iconic symbol of automotive culture, the work connects my past and present areas of practice. It explores the idea that art and mechanics are not mutually exclusive, but can simultaneously share the same attention to design, material, and process.
