They were not born to perform, entertain us, or exist within boundaries we chose for them.
The fact that we can walk away from their captivity while they cannot is a reminder of the privilege we take for granted and the injustice we continue to normalize.
Their freedom matters, too. And until we recognize that, we are still choosing human entertainment over their right to live freely.

Don’t forget some wild animals live in human custody to rehabilitate a nasty injury but would die if put back in the wild. Manatees for example, there’s a reason we’re not allowed to be friendly towards them. I’ve seen 2 in an aquarium, both had nasty scars from boat propellers. The employees told us they would die if released back into the wild bcz they don’t know to avoid boats. Many zoos and aquariums have rehabilitation programs for wounded wildlife, not all wildlife is able to go back though

It makes me very sad to think that dolphins embraced us and then they were captured and exploited for their own gifts, as dolphins are highly intelligent. We were meant to live in harmony with animals.
