I just don’t think my identity has anything to do with my professional career.

When you’re running this many businesses, my entire day is being a firefighter. There’s just a problem everywhere. But I don’t take it personal and I don’t think it matters. And so I’m detached.

@markbrazil asked  “How do you keep this all going?”

By not being scared for it to all fall apart.

Separating your identity from the business is useful when things go wrong and when you need to handover the business. The harder distinction for me is staying detached from the outcome without becoming detached from the people who have to deal with it. Care deeply about the team and the work and absolutely don't make every setback a verdict on yourself.
