In sad news, Marcel Johnson, the Michigan husband and dad who invited the Internet along on his cancer journey, has died.

His wife, Taylor Johnson, shared the news on Facebook, writing that he passed on Nov. 2 at 4:45 p.m.: “I lost a whole entire half of me. He fought so hard for so long.”

Marcel and Taylor own Lil Daddy’s Cheesecakes in Mount Clemens, Michigan. After he was diagnosed with stomach cancer, Marcel decided to document his journey via live stream and social videos. For about a year, he documented the appointments, the chemo, the hard conversations with his children and the small wins, and a huge online family formed around him. People donated and rallied to try to get him to City of Hope for possible experimental care.

In early October, he posted a photo from his bed with the caption, “I’m dying.”

Taylor shared that in his final day, the only words he said were “I’m ready to go,” and still he fought to hang on a little longer so they could have more time. She wrote that life “will absolutely never ever be the same.”

His story was everywhere in the internet as he touched so many people. Praying for Taylor, his children and everyone who loved him. Rest in peace, Marcel. 🕊️🖤
