I rarely post my before/after images because so much has changed beyond my appearance. My values, feelings and plans for the future are different now, and I no longer live with the same sadness, numbness and despair. I don’t feel bad when looking at my old pictures, but I no longer recognise myself in that person. It’s someone I used to be, and someone I believed I had to remain. I was wrong.

At the same time, I don’t want to forget or erase that person from my memory. Those pictures remind me of how it felt to hide myself, feel guilty for being born that way and play a role that wasn’t mine. I didn’t want to and couldn’t live like that, and I always keep that in mind.

I don’t post such content often because I want people to see me as who I am today. But I remember getting a small spark of hope before my transition when looking at images of other trans women. It helped me understand that there was still a way out and a chance to enjoy life.

If these images give even one person that same spark of hope and help them believe that a happier future is possible for them too, then they’re worth sharing.
