Pleun van Dijk is a speculative artist and designer exploring the evolving relationship between humans, science and technology.

Objects of Desire is an ongoing series exploring the intimate relationship between humans and technology.

As technology develops at an exponential pace, the boundaries between human and non-human continue to blur, raising fundamental questions about who we are and what we may become.

Objects of Desire explores this relationship through a collaboration between the designer, representing the human, and a generative algorithm, representing technology.

The process began with a dataset of realistic representations of human genitals and abstract sex toys.

A machine-learning model then generated 1,000 new, non-existing forms based on this material.

Selected digital forms were translated into physical sculptures, resulting in undefined, anthropomorphic objects that exist somewhere between human, non-human and technology.

The project invites us to consider how technology is shaping the forms around us and ultimately, how it might shape what we become.

FRIENDS¹ WITH² BENEFITS³
A group exhibition by Elvis Wesley, Lola Mayeras, Pleun van Dijk, Sigve Knutson, and Thomas Ballouhey.

Emerging from a shared stay on an island off the coast of Norway, FRIENDS¹ WITH² BENEFITS³ draws inspiration from the rocky landscape and the unexpected bonds it sparked. Uniting five distinct design practices, the show celebrates the joy of collaboration as much as the individual outcomes.

¹ friends: individuals connected by affection
² with: accompanied by another person or thing
³ benefits: advantages gained from a situation
