REVIEW: Tower.exe by @beaverlicious_games

Tower.exe is a printplay roll and write that uses poker/yahtzee like dice assignments to try to climb ten floors of a tower. Each tower has an enemy that you need to defeat and you'll do this by assigning dice in combat.

Your dice are rolled in groups/slots and you will choose the order in which these dice are added as you roll. Combat value consists of your base attack, which is your highest value dice; your combo value which relates to the pocalike combinations of dice; and your bonus value , which comes from any loot or upgrades that you've won in previous combats. You total these and if it exceeds the life points of the enemy you proceed to the next floor. If you lose a combat, you get an additional chance against that enemy to try to defeat it. If you fail against an enemy twice, you lose the game. If you make it all the way to the top of the tower and defeat the final enemy, you win the game.

Thoughts:
⚔️I like the general gameplay, turns are very simple and the structure doesn't change between rounds, the only differences come from the loot and upgrades that you gain when you defeat enemies.
⚔️The overall design of the player she is quite good, everything makes sense and is easy to comprehend.
⚔️Tower.exe makes use of the random generator which allows you to create unlimited new variations of the player sheets. The generator will randomise your loot, enemies, and slot configurations.
⚔️Some of the loot is very useful where it impacts almost every turn; however, some are dependent on you achieving specific goals to gain extra points. I'd like more loot to give ongoing benefits that aren't dependent on luck of the dice rolls. Additionally you could upgrade your combo scoring, however, the upgrade didn't feel valuable enough to ever really choose it.
⚔️ I very much appreciated that you get too free re rolls per combat, this helped mitigate against unfortunate dice rolls , that would otherwise mean you immediately lose.

Overall I enjoyed Tower.exe, it's a super fast game and easy to play a few rounds one after another. It's really simple to learn, very replayable, and offers a genuine challenge. by @pagepunk_io

REVIEW: Of Wheat & Wonders by @beaverlicious_games @pagepunk_io

Of Wheat & Wonders is a dynamic role and right about building expanding your own kingdom over fifteen years. Each year is represented by a round, and each round you will gather resources, trade with the marketplace, move around the map and build a variety of villages, towns, and special buildings.

Each game you will choose a scenario which consists of a map with variable locations and different terrain challenges as well as three objectives for that scenario. You will also receive a civilisation sheet which lists the buildings you can, market prices and is used to track your resources. Some round will trigger developments or events that give positive or negative efdects. At the end of the fifteen rounds, if you've managed to complete all three objectives, you win the game.

Thoughts:
🌾 The variability through the dynamic print and play configurator is really impressive. There's been a lot of thought around the scenarios with different challenges and the achievements linked to these as well.
🌾 While playing I did wonder if the variability might mean that the gameplay suffered a little, similar roll and writes have abilities linked to the challenge so that there is a path through that difficulty to success whereas, on occasion here I felt that the random nature meant that I was either lucky or not with the random configurations and in one instance felt that the map might be nearly impossible to achieve.
🌾 I think where this game shines is that there's the ability to create your own configurations and share these with others, this will massively help with the randomness feeling too intense.
🌾 I like the overall theme. I really enjoy building up civilisations and improving your engine as you play.
🌾You need a phone for the developments and events which is a little annoying, but manageable. I mostly didnt like this because the links are QR codes on the player sheets which took me away from the game visually.

Overall, I liked the general gameplay and theme here, I'd like to feel a little more cohesion between the random configurations and the goals. by @pagepunk_io

Hello everyone,

while preparing the Of Wheat & Wonders configurator with some final technical bits and pieces, we wanted to celebrate a little wooow moment.

Across our first three campaigns, we’ve managed to plant 148 real trees thanks to our amazing book backers!
Look at the picture ...that’s a whole forest! 🌲🌲🌲

Thank you so much for being part of this. We’ll do our best to keep creating more games, bend the rules of what board- and PnP games can look like... and plant more and more trees together!

YOU ROCK!

More updates soon.
Stay tuned!

Best,
Robin

We made it ... WOHOOO! The campaign is over!

Thanks so, so much for all the support, the feedback, and for joining us on this kinda uncommon indie approach to board gaming.

Please give us a few more days to wrap up the configurator files, make some final technical corrections, and then ... we set sail together. Off to Wheat & Wonders!

We’ll keep you updated shortly.

YOU ROCK!

Best,
Robin & Jack

Hello there, little settlers,

As our campaign is already halfway through, we thought it was time for a little raffle.

We’re giving away a free Gamebook of "Of Wheat & Wonders" to one lucky winner.

To enter, simply follow our account, leave a comment, and tag a friend you’d take with you on a boat.

That’s it... you’re in the raffle. :-)

Thanks so much for supporting our little indie adventure and speading the word!

Cheers,
Robin by @pagepunk_io

A kingdom that changes every time you hit configure? 👀

'Of Wheat and Wonders' is the third Dynamic Print-and-Play from Pagepunk. I spent one breezy afternoon ruling over a kingdom for 15 whole years!

How did my first attempt go? How’s the configurator this time? And where does this game stand next to its predecessors, BYTE:SHIFT and Mïnomancer?

Find out in my 140th issue, link in Bio [Get fresh PnP gems in your inbox]

The 3rd Dynamic Print-and-Play is out, and I’m STOKED! 🌾

Of Wheat and Wonders is a cozy, scenario-based kingdom builder where you have 15 years to settle new lands, establish villages and towns, discover developments, deal with disasters, and complete your objectives before your reign comes to an end.

And this time, we get to configure TWO sheets in this one, folks!

It took me just a few clicks on the configurator to figure there’s a LOT of variety in the offering.

The campaign just went live on Gamefound. I’ve been waiting for this DPnP for quite a while, so huge thanks to Robin and Jack for letting me dive into this one.

Okay, enough chit-chat. Back to the game!

PS: I’ll share my thoughts in a future newsletter issue once I’ve played it enough and seen what this DPnP has in store for me.

What a milestone on day 2!

We reached our first stretch goal and unlocked two more silly scenarios for everyone on board with Of Wheat & Wonders! More Wheat, more Wonders, more cozy silliness!
Those will be part of the configurator, as well as the gamebook!

Thanks so, so much for being part of this, and to everyone who isn’t on board yet: feel free to check out our campaign. Any support, feedback, or even just spreading the word means the world to us.

Link in bio, and have a great day! 😊 by @pagepunk_io
