Making stories out of paint sample names. Sometimes chosen, sometimes random, trying to vary genre & stick to 150 words or fewer! #paintsamplestories

Aspirational Tadpole.

Among smooth pebbles, Tadpole imagines her wriggly form a mermaid tail, glistening in a Santorini seascape. Imagines creeping onto a soft shore, stretching soft limbs out in sunwashed meadows. Dreams flexing blue jay feathers in a gentle breeze. Wishes herself a dancing peacock. 🦚

In a glorious crossover… IT’S ME! #bluey #paintchips by @paint_sample_stories

Amelia glanced up at the weeping cavern walls. The clear skies of the morning seemed a distant memory - she had needed sunglasses, now night vision glasses seemed more appropriate. It was not a trip for the faint of heart, but the lone splendour of the cave and the promise of sun sparkle at the mouth had awoken a fire within her and she had to do it. Giving herself a gentle nudge, she began to climb.

Rock up to a galaxy far far away. Gaze into a Martian’s eyes. Count the ways you are the same.

Lockdown.
.

Shh, without the traffic can you hear the crested lark? The village lane is zen. Soak up the warmth of the sunbaked brick in your yard, have another slice of brioche, and accept that you’re a natural brunette. .

Nonsense. With thanks to @kathurdley for this somewhat ridiculous draw!

Hey there cuddle bug. With your sassy suede boots and sapphire earbobs, you’re way cool. Not the fuzzy scruff you used to be. Now you’re a trailblazer; a sweet potato surprise with an optimistic outlook. .

Quarantine. .

We wave hello from our stone terrace houses, our minds a Thames fog, afternoon napping while the Yorkshire springtime unfolds outside. New growth of english primroses signals the new season, while we bake our peasant bread and tweet about kindness. .

Seasonal.

Gathered round a fir tree at the December Solstice listening to the chapel choir, the scent of almond sugar in the air.
Settling in back home with Christmas pudding and a love story on TV.
Season of fairy lights in jam jars and the kindness of strangers.... and scented soap from Cousin Claire again.

Two for the price of one today! Sometimes the random card selection really works. Other times..... 😂
So here’s my silly first response to this random draw, then a revisit a few days later and reversing the order.

Take One -

At Wintergreen are things unseen. A warm alpaca licks biscuit crumbs from his lips. Red sky in the morning, shepherd’s warning. He surveys the fiery sky and suspects a morning downpour. Better to stay in bed today... .
.
Take Two -

The early morning downpour, sudden and ferocious, subsides as quickly as it began and gives way to a fiery sky, drenching the fields in a strange, cool orange light. Brushing my breakfast biscuit crumbs from my lap, I pull my warm alpaca scarf closer against the chill and, fixing my eyes on my destination in the distance, set off across the wintergreen valley.

Ghost Carriage

Among the gravestones of Melrose Abbey is not my ideal campground, but, my companions assure me, it’s better than a night on the moors, and we’ve been caught out. Grimly I pull my sleeping bag around me and set myself against the gritty sky. It’s a restless night, but it’s not the thunderbolts ripping through the clouds that unsettle me, but the moments of quiet when the wind drops, and I could swear I hear carriage wheels on the deserted track. In the morning I ask the others if they heard it but they laugh and tell me I must have been dreaming. We set off at first light, the sky battlement grey, and I am glad to be away.

Last-ditch romance.

Daybreak beckons and we both know this is it, it’s now or never. My whole body feels like melted butter as in one bold move he pulls me in and, drunk on warm breezes and the scent of dog rose and summer moss, we share a deep soul kiss.

Sometimes I lay out a lot of cards in front of me, play about with them, and build a story or work out a theme that way. This one I blindly drew five cards and worked with whatever I got! Just to prove it isn’t rigged ;) .

It’s been raining for days. I’m bundled up in layers and there’s a fire roaring, and yet I can feel the chill, as if the damp has seeped right under my skin. Tom, the ginger kitten, sits on the windowsill and mews plaintively, he’s bored. I scoop him up and together we stand at the window, looking out at the bleak countryside and the welsh slate roofs, sleek with rain. I shiver, and as I stroke Tom’s warm fur, the sound of water gushing from the drainpipe outside sparks a memory of a waterfall I saw last year, and a snorkelling trip in warmer climes; long carefree days surrounded by cool agave plants, and my love, all aglow in a white veil.
The kitten wriggles free and I am jolted back to today. He jumps from my arms and I am left, alone. .
