I’ve always enjoyed the food at Palenque Grill, but this time I stopped in specifically to try their Taco Charles, and I’m glad I did.

It’s a pretty fantastic taco. Flame-grilled ribeye, toasted cheese, homemade tortillas, avocado, lime, and pickled red onions.

The ribeye brings this incredibly rich, beefy, smoky flavor, while the acidity from the lime and pickled onions balances everything out beautifully. I tried it on both flour and corn tortillas, and while both were great, the corn was my favorite.

And don’t overlook the salsas. Their Volcán salsa macha has a wonderful complexity and moderate heat, while the habanero is simpler, brighter, and considerably spicier. Both are excellent.

I also got to try their three limited-time Halloween cocktails: the Blood Martini, Haunted Martini, and Diablito.

The Haunted Martini was my favorite. I’m not usually drawn to sweeter cocktails, but the chamoy and tamarind flavors really worked here without becoming overly sweet.

The Halloween cocktails are available through the end of October, so you’ve only got a few days left to try them.

Worth the stop.

San Antonio, let me put you on to a taco that’s absolutely worth the drive no matter where you are in Texas.

@palenque.grill at La Cantera is celebrating National Taco Month with the Taco Charles, and if you know me, you know ribeye tacos are some of my favorites!

Juicy ribeye, crispy cheese costra, avocado, and pickled red onions. Nothing complicated, just an incredible combination of flavors! I tried mine on both corn and flour tortillas, along with all their salsas, and this taco is ON POINT!

And since it’s October, they’ve got some pretty incredible Halloween cocktails to go with it! The Blood Martini, Diablita, and my personal favorite, the Haunted Martini!

If you love chamoy and Tajín, that Haunted Martini is something SPECIAL! Light, refreshing, and easily one of the best cocktails I’ve had in San Antonio!

Whether you’re a local or visiting San Antonio and looking for some great Mexican food, Palenque Grill needs to be on your list!
