DAY & NIGHT is heading to print! From Old Government House in Parramatta to a publishing house in Brăila, Romania, DAY & NIGHT is set to be published online and in print in 2027. The volume has been sent to Editura Sfântul Ierarh Nicolae, and both editions will be distributed free of charge by the curator. Our warm thanks to Mrs Mirela Voinea for her continued support. Created by photographic artist Luminita Lenuta and poet Mihaela Cristescu, DAY & NIGHT brought photography and writing into conversation at Parramatta’s Lit! on 26 September 2026. Writers brought poems and essays they’d already written and made new connections with the photographs and the place on the day. Thank you to Carol Amos (President, NWG Inc.) and S.E. Crawford (Editor, ZineWest) for their welcoming remarks, Felicity Amos for the live music, and Fab Florens for the cartoons. Guest writers included Augusta Supple, Linda Atkins, Danny Draper, Luke Carman and Peter Cartwright. Proudly presented at Old Government House, managed by the National Trust (NSW), as part of Parramatta’s Lit! 2026, supported by the Australian Government through Creative Australia and through the NSW Government Create NSW. #DayAndNight #Publishing #WesternSydney #Writers @mihcristescu @luminitaq by @parramattas.lit
Pictured here is Zohra Aly, our recent Writer in Residence as organised through a @parramattas.lit program supporting Western Sydney writers. It was a great pleasure to have her in the Giramondo office, and assist in the development of new work. ‘I’m grateful to Augusta Supple at Parramatta’s Lit for setting up the residency opportunities,’ says Zohra. ‘At Giramondo I was able to plan and make progress on my non-fiction project "Of Mosques and Men”. Ivor was a generous and understanding mentor who gave me thoughtful feedback, as well as the space to write. A big plus was getting to know the Giramondo, HEAT and SRB staff, and work alongside other writers. I've come through the residency with a clearer vision forward and the impetus to seek out nooks of time for writing in a busy life.’ We wish her all the best with her current and future projects ❤️ 📸 James Crawford by @parramattas.lit
As part of my residency with @parramattas.lit, @currencypress sent me a whopping 15 plays! Massive, massive shout-out to them. I cannot wait to devour all of these incredible works before stealing their best ideas, like the ratbag artist I am. Playwrights in this haul include: @suziemillerwriter, @kendallfeaver, @nickparsons8, @andrewjbovell, @benjaminichol, Melissa Reeves, Christos Tsiolkas, Irine Vela, Alex Buzo, Madelaine Nunn, and Patricia Cornelius. #ParramattasLit #WritersInResidence #BookHaul by @parramattas.lit
“Hi Abida, I saw KaMeeNi as part of the Parramatta Lit festival and I was very moved. I just wanted to say as a 1.5 generation South Asian person myself, I related to a lot of the family pain you showed very accurately and also meaningfully. I remember mum always managing how we behaved to not upset dad’s emotions and even now, we’re faced with this abyss at times. But more importantly, the sincere and urgent reminder of the effect of patriarchy to generations of women was the most powerful theme for me. I think it’s a very different type of power that boys and men of South Asian families have the privilege of growing up with and my responsibility to break away from this cycle. Thank you for your work. I hope to see it one day on the stage.” This message is why we do what we do. Thank you @parramattas.lit festival for the platform and talented cast for an electric performance masked as a reading. KaMeeNI (Bitch) and NISWAN (Women) - "Presented as part of Parramatta's Lit! supported by Creative Australia" I 📷 thank you for the brilliant professional photos James A.M. Post 1/3 As I begin to wrap up the PPP (acquittals, reports, surveys) it's a time of reflection and tinelining: Nov 24 I ran a free (and unpaid) 2-day collaborative play pilot at WestWords called "Play Parramatta". The playwrights were Chris Fleming, Luke Carman, Katy-May Hudson, Jelena Curic, Christopher Sammut, Peter Maple, Paris Rosemont and Adrienne Ferreria. Then due to demand I ran a free one day workshop for 14 writers called "Parramatta Play Mates" in Nov 2024. I pay for two actors to read the work. Jan 25 I began building a relationship with the Baramadagal Darug Tribal Governing Council, and partnerships with venues, local orgs and applying for funding and residencies. Aug 25 I secure funding. Nov 25 I secure more funding. Jan 26 Nearly 60 applications from writers and after 20 interviews, 8 writers were selected for the development. Linda Atkins, Saurabh Bhattacharya, Micharne Cloughley, Laneikka Denne, Chris Fleming, Marcus Khoudair, Paris Rosemont and Melita Rowston. Mar 26 461 pages of material written by 7 writers. More places to visit, more writing and consolidation required. Meanwhile more than 50 actor applications were received and we begin a residency at The Rex Cranphorn Studio at The University of Sydney. Apr 26 The draft becomes "I Can't Believe it's Not Parramatta" for a cast of 9 assembled. 2 readings are held Infront of WSU Theatre Students and industry/friends. Jun 26 With leftover funds from phase 1, I created a Workshop version: 3 days, 4 sites, 8 writers, with a development reading as a part of Parramatta's Lit! I open EOIs. Jul 26 I receive 30 apps I interview 12 writers for 8 places. More funding secured Aug 26 Another writer departed "I Can't Believe It's Not Parramatta" and the script was overhauled for 6 actors. PPP Workshop commences with 7 writers Sunny Grace, Pirie Outridge, Dilroop Khangura, Josie Lee, Kobra Sayyadi, Linh Pham Kate Jirelle. Sept 26 As part of Parramatta's Lit "I Can't Believe it's Not Parramatta" rewritten & recast, develops in front of an audience across 3 venues. The PPP Workshop version is presented by May Tran, Yana Taylor, Noel Hodda, Idam Sondhi Rami Saaid, Susan L Young. by @parramattas.lit

🔥 SAFETYPIN 25: INK & IDENTITY 🔥 More moments from Parramatta’s Lit! 2026 At Ink & Identity, diverse voices came together for an evening of spoken word, poetry, storytelling and music — exploring who gets to write our stories, who gets to define us, and what it means to reclaim our own narratives. Memories shared. Labels challenged. Stories reclaimed. Truths told. Hosted at Icy Spicy on James Ruse Drive, the night created a welcoming, freestyle open mic where people could step up and share — or simply sit back, listen and connect. A beautiful celebration of identity, culture, creativity, truth-telling and community as part of Parramatta’s Lit! Huge thanks to SafetyPin for creating this incredible event and for holding this space. Congratulations to everyone who took to the mic to share their work. And many thanks to everyone who came along to listen and support! 📸 Photos: @jamesamcrawford by @parramattas.lit
More moments from Parramatta’s Lit! 2026: 🔥 BOOK LAUNCH: CRIP STORIES ANTHOLOGY🔥 The word crip was once used to discriminate. Today, it is reclaimed and celebrated. Presented by Mascara Literary Review, in partnership with Parramatta Libraries, this special event celebrated the launch of Crip Stories — created in collaboration with NewSouth Publishing and Mascara Literary Review, and prioritising BIPOC writers and writers who are multiply marginalised. MC Michelle Cahill was joined by contributors Sharleigh Crittenden, J Marahuyo, Hem Sid Chandran, Irina Frolova, Mona Attamimi, Paris Rosemont and Ariel Riveros, with Peter Boyle reading for Mario Licón Cabrera. The evening also honoured the life and work of disabled Mexican Australian poet and translator Mario Licón Cabrera, who passed away during the book’s production. ❤️ A powerful evening of poetry, storytelling, community and celebration — and a reminder of the importance of making space for stories and voices too often pushed to the margins. Thank you to everyone who joined us at Parramatta Library Ideas Lounge for this beautiful gathering. 📸 Photos: @jamesamcrawford Presented by Mascara Literary Review In partnership with cityofParramattaLibraries by @parramattas.lit
More moments from Parramatta’s Lit! INDUSTRY DAY. 🔥 ECHOES IN FICTION 🔥 Western Sydney writers Alexandria Burnham and Annie McCann, in conversation with Eleanor Cooper, talking fiction, history, culture, representation — and what happens when we draw on the worlds, communities and stories around us to make new work. Who gets to tell stories? Where does fiction meet lived experience? How do history and culture find their way onto the page? A brilliant conversation between three Western Sydney creatives about writing, responsibility, representation and imagination. Huge thanks to Alexandria, Annie and Eleanor for bringing their insight, generosity and experience to Parramatta’s Lit! 2026 📸 @jamesamcrawford by @parramattas.lit
