The word “Christ” means “Anointed One.”

Scripture teaches that antichrist is not only associated with a coming person but the “spirit of the antichrist” is already at work in the world (1 John 4:3). John even says that “many antichrists” had already come (1 John 2:18). Biblically, antichrist is characterized by opposition to the truth of Jesus Christ (1 John 2:22; 4:2–3).

When Jesus walked the earth, religious leaders opposed Him because of His claims concerning His identity and authority. In John 8:58, Jesus declared, “Before Abraham was, I am.” They immediately picked up stones to throw at Him.

Jesus also exercised authority over the works of the devil: “The Son of God appeared for this purpose, to destroy the works of the devil.” (1 John 3:8)

Before ascending to heaven, Jesus told His disciples to wait for the Holy Spirit. Then He told them, “You will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you will be my witnesses.” (Acts 1:8)

In Mark 16:15–18, Jesus commissioned believers to preach the Gospel, and the passage describes signs following those who believe:

Cast out demons.
Speak in new tongues.
Pick up serpents.
Be protected from deadly things.
Lay hands on the sick, and they will recover.

I don’t believe Jesus was commanding Christians to intentionally handle snakes or consume poison. The larger point is that believers would carry out Christ’s mission under His authority and protection.

Jesus did not describe His followers as spiritually powerless. He promised them the Holy Spirit and POWER.

The New Testament tells believers to resist the devil (James 4:7), stand against his schemes (Ephesians 6:10–18), exercise spiritual gifts (1 Corinthians 12:4–11), and proclaim the Gospel by the power of the Holy Spirit.

So when an ideology denies Christ’s identity, rejects His authority, or opposes the work of His Spirit, Scripture gives us categories for recognizing what is contrary to Christ.

The best week with a kingdom fire starter. We are so thankful @jdshuttlesworth took time to minister to us this week. We definitely feel like there was a shift that took place at our church.

Ada Quinn’s first day of kindergarten and Fisher’s first day of Jr. High. 🍎📓

I would NOT recommend having kids that hit these milestones the same day…. 10% because it was busy and 90% because it was an emotional day for Mama!

Celebrated 7 years at Seven Falls with the man of my dreams. I love him so much. There’s truly not another like him in all the earth.
