A note for families watching the budget: some of the fully funded summer programs close their applications in November, and the rest follow in December. They are competitive, which is exactly why a careful application written now beats a rushed one in January. Our free-programs guide lists what each one covers and who it is for. Link in bio.

Duino is a small village on the Adriatic with a castle, a cliff path Rilke walked, and a UWC campus that has welcomed students from every continent since 1982. Our Italy session uses it the way it was meant to be used: seminars in the morning, the sea in the afternoon, and dinners where the table speaks four languages. The program page walks through a typical day. Link in bio.

Most families start talking about next summer somewhere between Halloween and Thanksgiving, usually because a counselor mentioned it or an older sibling's calendar filled up. It is a good moment: early enough to compare options calmly, late enough that the school year has shown what your teenager is actually curious about. Our guide to pre-college programs covers what to weigh, from academics to supervision to cost. Link in bio.

Students tell us the same thing at the end of every session, in different words: they arrived expecting to learn about a subject and left having learned how to disagree well with someone they liked. That skill outlasts almost everything else on a summer transcript. Link in bio.

The question we hear most from parents is whether their teenager is ready. Usually the honest answer is that readiness is what the two weeks produce, not what they require. If your child can manage a school trip, they can manage this, and they will come home taller in a way that has nothing to do with height. Link in bio.

Admissions readers do not award points for a passport stamp. They read what the student did and whether they can explain what changed. A summer program earns its place in an application when the student comes back with a question they did not have before. Link in bio.

The most valuable thing in the room is usually the other students. Every session brings together teenagers from more than 50 countries, which means the debate about climate policy has someone in it whose town floods, and the conversation about migration has someone who has lived it. Link in bio.

USD 5,000 covers the full two weeks: tuition, room, board, all activities and day trips, and the certificate at the end. Flights and personal spending sit outside that. We publish the number plainly because families comparing summer programs deserve to compare like for like. Link in bio.

If cost is the obstacle, start with the fully funded programs. NSLI-Y and CBYX cover tuition, travel, room and board, and both open their applications this fall with deadlines in November and December. Our guide to free summer programs covers what else is out there. Link in bio.

Pearson College UWC occupies a stretch of forest and shoreline on Vancouver Island, and our Canada session runs there. Cold water, tall trees, and a campus built on the idea that living alongside people from everywhere is itself the curriculum. Link in bio.

UWC Costa Rica sits in Santa Ana, surrounded by the biodiversity that makes the country a living classroom for sustainability. Our Costa Rica session takes that seriously: field work, local partners, and conversations about conservation with people who do it for a living. Link in bio.

Our academic model borrows from the Oxford tutorial: small groups, a subject expert who knows every student's name, and the expectation that you arrive having done the reading and having formed a view. Fifteen students in a seminar room argue better than a hundred in a lecture hall. Link in bio.
