Comics, Pulps, Action Figures, collectibles, sharing photos of an inherited collection I am going through from a life-long collector and fan

POSTS STORIES REELS

My last post for spooky season. Just found these today going through boxes. These are Curtis books. They are by Marvel. Issue 1 with the skeleton is a Gray Morrow illustration. by @patm616

Some spooky covers for Halloween 🎃 A range of art types from the scary serious to humorous. by @patm616

In the category of Comics I Had No Idea Existed Until Yesterday, here's one I found going through the last few boxes of comics I had never looked at. Seems weird to say I've been working on going through these a little at a time going on almost 4 years. There were months at a time though that I did not touch them at all. Found a couple of complete runs of different titles yesterday that are all 4 issue run, 12 issue run or that type of thing. Found two different detective story type comics from the 80s I had also never heard of or even seen posted anywhere. I still have some spooky stuff to post for October, one of which I came across yesterday as well. by @patm616

Fun part of going through a collection is finding cool stuff. I think it's cool anyway. First photo features a story of The Saint. Leslie Charteris was a British-Chinese writer who had popularity from his character, Simon Templar. There was the 1960s TV show starring Roger Moore and even later still (1997) a movie with Val Kilmer, all from a character created in the 1930s. Next book has story by Cornell Woolrich. But note the little symbol in lower left near spine to encourage folks to buy war bonds. 3rd picture shows a pulp with a Ray Bradbury story. The next two are with stories by Earle Stanley Gardner creator of Perry Mason. Love the angry little monkey holding a flashlight. The final picture just shows how amazingly well-preserved these spines are for pulps from the 30s and 40s. by @patm616

These two items are self-portrait signature art by Archie Goodwin. They went directly from him to the previous owners of the collection I inherited. The first one is obviously him as Yoda. And the second is himself as Conan with a pencil as his sword. He signed that one "Epically Yours" because he was editor of Epic magazine. Love both of these, but Yoda Archie is going to a new home. I'm keeping Conan Archie because Conan the Barbarian was one of my friend's favorite characters of all time in literature and comics. by @patm616

Some more Green Lantern and a Tales of Green Lantern Corps. No.7 First Sinestro. No.185 is a John Stewart origin story. Love the artwork on that. No.88 is a Neal Adams cover featuring the Golden Age Green Lantern. I'm partial to that costume myself. Then Tales of Green Lantern Corps No.1 has floating heads. I always have to laugh at floating heads covers. It reminds me of the Kryptonian judgement scene in Christopher Reeve Superman II. Loving Lanterns TV show. This cover gives a good idea of all the different types of beings that are Lanterns across its universe. by @patm616

Saw people posting about the Lanterns activation at SDCC. It looked like fun and they got some cool rings for participating. Then James Gunn posted today is the anniversary of Hal Jordan's appearance in Showcase 22. Do not have that one, but I found some covers to show off that I like. Looking forward to the Lanterns TV show. by @patm616

SDCC is going on this week. Seeing posts of all the cool Doomsday costumes and other Marvel events there made me think of this book that has gone off to a new home. by @patm616

Looking forward to the Supergirl movie. #supergirl by @patm616

I hear the He-Man movie is really fun. I'm going to try to go see it in theater probably next week. by @patm616

Not every issue is a jewel. This one is definitely showing its age. I've posted some really nice books that were gorgeous and sent to auction. But then there's some of the keepers for now that aren't as lovely. This is a very cool issue to have, but pointing out the defects here include a page may have been cut and inserted from another issue to make this one complete. The ragged creased and torn cover. Spine split. The dust shadows. Pen writing at bottom of first page (that's not an autograph). I still have to check for color touch and measure as the whole book may very well have been trimmed because the right hand edges look too clean for all the other problems this one has. by @patm616
