Join us at Studio 105 at Ray Philly this Friday, November 6 from 6-8PM for the opening of Patricia Renee’ Thomas’s exhibition, Party Palace Plus! For this new solo exhibition, @patriciareneethomas transforms the gallery into something between a party venue and a stage set, bringing together paintings, drawings, figurines, toys, religious objects, and playful installations. Pastel palettes, familiar childhood characters, and festive balloons create a vibrant yet unsettling environment that considers how ideas about identity, gender, social roles, and ownership are shaped long before we can question them. Through wit, humor, and bright imagery, Thomas invites viewers to look beyond the spectacle of childhood innocence and consider the social hierarchies and fictions of the social contract embedded within it. The exhibition runs through February 14th, 2027 and is curated by @sonyamay. The gallery is open Wednesday through Sunday, 12-6PM. 𝘚𝘢𝘳𝘢𝘩 𝘓𝘢𝘯𝘥 by Patricia Renee’ Thomas opens at the Susquehanna Art Museum in the Dōshi Gallery from October 9, 2026 – January 10, 2027. From the release: Sarah Land is a collection of works loosely inspired by the true story of Sarah Rector, an oil magnate who was made “The Richest Colored Girl in America” at only 11 years old. In 1913, the 1889 Unassigned Lands Law in central Oklahoma repatriated 160 acres of presumably useless land to Sarah. After striking oil on her allotted land, Rector’s wealth was unheard of; making more in a week than the average American family made in a year. Her land, assets, and profits were quickly put in the control of several white custodians despite the fact that Rector’s parents were alive. The “custodians” deposited and invested her wealth for personal gain, passing her land from one hand to the next. 𝘚𝘢𝘳𝘢𝘩 𝘓𝘢𝘯𝘥 questions the connection between the commodity of goods like oil and the abuse of the bodies of Black girls and women. The exhibit opens up the opportunity for play and girlhood beauty, just as Sarah would have wanted. The colors and compositions are both lush and youthful, building a story of perseverance and unsurveilled joy while she asks the viewer to consider their position in American systems of capital. Thank you @woodmeremuseum “Shroud” 2026. multimedia on canvas The portrait of the image features Aleah Fabiyi-King, my dear friend, who I lost to illness in 2017. Through a familiar composition of remembrance T-shirts that we often reserve for our closest loved ones, I built a composition that both honors her as family, and honors the daily act of remembering family. The work is also inspired by several renditions of the classic representation of the St. Veronica holding the Veil (or Holy Shroud) which displays St. Veronica holding up a cloth she had used to wipe the blood and sweat off of Jesus’ face during his crucifixion. The works are often adorned with cherubs or angels who assist her in lifting the image for display, offering the viewer to join her in her mourning, but revel in its beauty. The shroud is thought to have healing abilities. by @patriciareneethomas
