We got a look at the Geo Group visiting calendar for November. Sadly it is more of the same.

Visits have not increased materially since June. They are still at just over half the amount of time that they were before the labor/hunger strike that began at the end of May.

The policy prior to the hunger/labor strike was also to provide visiting in all units on federal holidays. This Thanksgiving only the women's unit (unit 1), medical and solitary will get visits. That means only about 60 people of the 750-950 people inside have the opportunity for a visit.

Monday night visits continue on a rotating basis. Each week 2 of the 8 units have the opportunity of a visit. That means one extra visit a month.

Geo Group issued a new visiting schedule for the month of November. They will continue with visits on Mondays for rotating units. There will be visits on Thanksgiving, but only for 1/2 of the units. by @paxchristinj

The hospitality tent at Delaney Hall was busy this Halloween. It was filled with visitors. Thanks to @njaction21 we had crafts for the children. We also received a large donation of food from @trinitychurchap.

Sadly, the visitors were forced to wait in the outdoor shelter in between two locked gates before their visit. There are no chairs in shelter and we can no longer bring coolers of water, baskets of snacks and chalk for the children.

Holy Trouble Halloween! 🎃🧡

A big thank you from the Sisters of Charity of New York to Wendy, Sally, and Kathy O’Leary of Pax Christi NJ for spreading a little Halloween joy outside Delaney Hall ICE Detention Center yesterday!

An extra Sister Shout-Out goes to SCNY volunteer Barbara Burke, Esq., who not only helped distribute the treats but did the shopping, too! 🍬

In a place where so many families experience fear, uncertainty, and heartbreak, even the smallest acts of kindness become powerful expressions of love and solidarity.

Kindness is a powerful form of witness. And sometimes, Holy Trouble comes with candy. 🧡

Hail Mary, full of grace.
Help us find the courage to confront injustice, the compassion to stand with the vulnerable, and the faith to resist cruelty wherever it takes hold.

May we never confuse obedience to power with faithfulness to God.

Amen. ❤️

Spooky season should be about magic, costumes, and trick-or-treating--not missing a loved one who is trapped behind barbed wire and denied due process.

For many families, Halloween is a celebration. But for the children of those detained at Delaney Hall under unjust and inhumane conditions, this holiday can be a painful reminder of the ones that are missing.

We believe every child deserves to feel the magic and joy of Halloween. We came together this week to fill over 100 Halloween treat bags with goodies. Our volunteers will be delivering these directly to Delaney Hall’s Radical Hospitality Tent so these kids might have something sweet to look forward to during this time of hardship.

Community and empathy for our immigrant neighbors is our strength and we will see these families reunited. 🎃🍬✨

Join us next Thursday 10/29 from 5-7PM at the Sparta United Methodist church to assemble more treat bags!

We are highlighting a specific need at the radical hospitality tent this week. We are in need of unscented baby wipes. We depleted our supply as we were trying to help families fill their school supply lists in late August and early September.

Below is the complete list of items for donations that you can drop off during visitor support hours. The shelf stable items we assemble into pantry bags for visitors and for people who were released.

Canned tuna fish
Beans (canned & dried)
Rice (1 or 2 lb bags of long grain)
Pasta
Flour
Cornmeal
Honey
Dried fruits & nuts
Broth
Peanut butter
Shelf stable milk & juice
Rolled oats & other grains
Sidewalk chalk
Jump ropes
Soccer & Basketballs (new please)
Toy cars
Dolls & action figures
Plush toys
Spinners, fidgets, stress balls, squishies
Stamps
Sanitary napkins
Individually packaged snacks (chips, granola bars, cookies, etc.)
Apples
Mandarins
Instant hot chocolate packs
Instant ramen in cups
Stadium blankets (new, please)
Shoelaces
Rosaries*
Bibles in Spanish, French, Portuguese, and Haitian Creole*

*We often have individual requests for Qurans and other religious texts, and prayer beads and other religious items which we fulfill, but the need for Bibles and rosaries is constant.

We are always in need of grocery store gift cards from Shoprite and Stop & Shop. Denominations of $25 or $50 are the easiest for us to distribute.

Please drop off items during visiting hours.

Monday-Thursday
Saturday and Sunday

Thank you in advance for your generosity.

No Kings Rally/ Delaney Hall Detention, Newark NJ Oct 17, 18. by @paxchristinj

The children who come to visit their parents and other relatives at Delaney Hall often take advantage of the chalk and other art materials on hand. Today, they had some guidance from artist @norachavooshian, who donated her time and materials. The children made god's eyes and puppets. We are looking forward to some group art projects in the coming weeks, too. by @paxchristinj

It's autumm. The days are getting shorter, and the nights are getting colder.

Last week, we asked for new blankets to give out to our released neighbors and their loved ones who wait for hours outside Delaney Hall after they have paid their bonds. The community responded to our request. These are just one day's delivery of blankets.

What do we need this week? Join the mailing list for timely updates on donation requests and how to become a volunteer.

Bishop Bismarck spoke to a filled room at the Knights of Columbus Theology on Tap event in Gillette. He was speaking on the issue of immigration. He combined stories of his personal experience and those of people he has met with church teaching on migration and welcoming immigrants. It was a powerful event with thoughtful questions and opportunities for dialogue.
