Introducing Brittney Rogers and Drake Whitcraft — the winemaking team we've been building toward.
Brittney brings four vintages at Melville and time under Sashi Moorman at Provignage, with roots already deep in this estate. Drake carries forward a legacy born in Santa Barbara County, shaped by decades of old-school, minimal-intervention craft.
Together, they represent something we've been working toward for years: winemaking fully integrated with the way we farm.

Worth the wait.

October at the Ranch.

With the ’26 grape harvest behind us, our focus begins to shift. The wines are resting in barrel, and life around the ranch is slowing down. The olive trees are nearly ready for harvest, and the vineyard is beginning its seasonal senescence.

Here are a few of our favorite moments from the past month. by @pencevineyards

We didn't set out to make sparkling wine.

But when Rajat Parr introduced Blair to Michael Cruse, and the two of them started tasting together, something became clear. There's a tension in our fruit, an acidity particular to this site, that traditional method sparkling wine was built for. Perlage is how we share that.
It's a tasting built around time. You'll move through current and library releases and taste what four years on the lees, our block-specific farming, and this climate actually give you in the glass. We didn't need to add anything.
We've paired it with caviar from Tsar Nicoulai, California's only ECOCERT-certified sturgeon farm. Like us, they farm with patience, letting the source speak for itself.

Organic farming means finding partners, not products. Bluebirds for mealybugs. Barn owls for gophers. Kestrels for whatever moves at the wrong moment. We built the boxes, kept the margins wild, and let them work.

At Pence, tradition is just the beginning. Under the direction of Sashi Moorman, we continue to refine our technical approach while preserving the independent spirit that defines us. Rooted in a deep respect for our land, we craft wines that speak clearly of their origin—pure expressions shaped by precision, patience, and purpose.

Before Pence Vineyards was planted, Blair Pence was a passionate collector—a student of wine, learning from every bottle. 🍷
His path led to Burgundy, where friendships with vignerons opened the door to a deeper understanding of terroir, tradition, and the discipline required to let the land speak.
What he saw there—minimal intervention, technical precision, and unwavering respect for place—laid the foundation for what we do here today in the Sta. Rita Hills.
