Recent research findings. I also used to believe the saying was «getting off on a tangent». by @pepsimarxx
Ingvild Melberg Eikeland @pepsimarxx had her studio at Tou Atelierhus open during @openstudiosstavanger. OSS is over, but you can still get to know her work through our interview on Atelie. She works across material-based and digital media, from sculptures in wood and natural rubber to video, sound and language models. She holds an MFA from Umeå Academy of Fine Arts and a BA in sociology from the University of Stavanger. In the interview she talks about how her projects come about, the materials she uses and an ordinary day in the studio: atelie.art/a/interview-with-ingvild-melberg-eikeland Photos: Tord Paulsen, Ingvild M. A look back at Ingvild Melberg Eikeland's residency at Studija, where she spent June and July developing “Songs about the last leaf” 🍃 During her time in Kuldīga, Ingvild developed project that began by imagining stomata (singular: stoma, from the Greek στόμα, “mouth”), the pores on plant leaves, as a Chorus. Stomata absorb carbon dioxide and release oxygen – an exchange reciprocated by humans and other organisms. These “mouths” become sites of exchange, connected through the waste products of breath. Drawing from the role of the Chorus in Greek tragedy, Ingvild explores how songs construct shared and personal mythologies and memories, and how exchanges and frictions unfold between the singular and the plural. The work brings together recordings of traditional choir songs, pop songs performed in karaoke bars, conversations between takes, and phone calls home, where everyday digressions exist alongside planned recordings and performances. Following philosopher Emanuele Coccia’s ideas of mixture and exchange, Ingvild allows these different materials to cross-pollinate and transform one another. Thank you, Ingvild, for spending this time with us and for sharing your research and process at Studija! 📸 Ingvild Melberg Eikeland by @pepsimarxx
An attempt of summarizing the two months of research and digressions during my residency at @studija_space. A preliminary work is in progress and will be shown at Studija as a part of the group exhibition "Es un Līvija", commemorating Līvija Rezevska. Big thanks to Studija and @maijarudovska for hosting and support during my stay and to new and old friends in Latvia for all the love, fun and support. Paldies/Paliga by @pepsimarxx
~~~~~~~~~~~ In June and July in our residency stays Ingvild Melberg Eikeland from Norway. She works across material-based and digital media, combining them into installations through storytelling. Her artistic practice builds on investigations into the valence of myth and mythos and the role of narrative in forming cultural imaginaries and sustaining hegemonic structures. Eikeland’s work is developed through imagining alternate realities and in shifting the perspectives of the self-soothing stories humans make up to comfort themselves during environmental and political crises. Through critical fabulation and the appropriation of knowledge systems and tools, such as language and data, these stories are reimagined and voiced by nonhuman and material actants.
