This weekend, I was having a hard time with anxiety. Someone had said some unkind things about someone I love and I felt this need to prove something to defend, explain, or somehow make it right.

My mind wouldn’t let it go. I kept replaying it over and over, stuck in a loop of anxious and ruminating thoughts.

And in the middle of all that noise, I heard that still, small voice:

“Be still.”

I knew it was God.

So I went to Psalm 46:10: “Be still, and know that I am God.”

When I looked at the whole chapter, it hit me differently. Psalm 46 talks about God being our refuge, making wars cease, breaking the bow and shattering the spear. Then He says, “Be still.”

In other words: You don’t have to fight every battle. You don’t have to defend everything. You don’t have to figure everything out. Stop striving and remember who God is.

Being still doesn’t mean that nothing is happening. It means trusting that God is working even when you stop trying to control the outcome.

And in that moment, peace came over me.

So this is my reminder for the week and maybe yours too:

When your mind is loud, be still.
When you want to defend yourself, be still.
When you don’t understand what God is doing, be still.
When anxiety tells you that you need to fix it right now, be still and know that He is God. 🤍
