I paint abstract coastal landscapes inspired by the west coast of Scotland.

POSTS STORIES REELS

Finished and framed by myself this weekend,
“Fading Tales On Distant Shores” captures my connection with the west of Scotland coastal landscape, expressing the sensory experience I find when walking the coastline and its surroundings.

The visual elements of colour, shape, line, mark and texture find their way into my paintings as I strive to capture the constant energy and renewal of the coastal landscape. Bold brush strokes, quiet layering, pops of colour and delicate lines are all combined in this painting to heighten the viewer’s interest and capture the essence of place.

It’s always nice when a personal favourite is chosen by someone.
Such is the case with this piece
‘A Warm Summer Breeze Blew Across The Bay’ which I have packaged this weekend for dispatch tomorrow.

I always had a bit of a soft spot for this one, it was an early piece on the website and I’m delighted its patience has paid off and the right person has now come along ☺️.

Hope you enjoyed your weekend 😊.

I can hear the seabirds I can feel the salt in the air. Another piece to make you feel coastal and nautical.

Just the sort of abstract seascape to go places, perhaps your place.

“Day Returns To Shore” available now on the website, link in bio.

Hope you have an enjoyable weekend 😊.

I’m very comfortable in my 20x20cm to 40x40cm zone and can usually get things to communicate what it is I want to say. I am however a bit less confident when we get to the larger sizes.

So this week I decided to concentrate on three 74x74cm canvases that have been in various stages on and off for some considerable time and see if I could challenge my judgement.

And do you know what I really think this piece is communicating what I want to say about my Scottish coastal landscape.

Trust the process, just trust the process it’s the only way, as I keep telling myself.

Hope you have an enjoyable weekend 😊.

Absolutely delighted ‘Windswept Sands’ has recently been acquired through Prince & Pilgrim Gallery, Richmond, London.

It always was a particular favourite for me and I’m thrilled someone else sees it too ☺️.

Hope your week is going well 😊.

“Along The Sea Sands Damp And Brown”

The title for this piece is a line taken from the poem by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow called “The Tide Rises, The Tide Falls”. I’m not very well acquainted with poetry but this piece really resonates with me. So much so I keep a copy I wrote out pinned to my studio wall.

It’s one of the new pieces I very recently put on my website the link for which is in my bio if the work interests you.

Hope you have enjoyed your weekend 😊.

A 50c50cm cradled wood panel from this weekend’s studio time. Heading in the right direction methinks. I’ll let it rest for a few days and see if it needs anything else when I come back to look at it.

Hope you have enjoyed your weekend 😊.

A piece for the sunshine weather many of us are enjoying at the moment. Got hold of some natural wood frames recently and I think it’s working really well here.

If you fancy bringing a bit of the summer coast to your living space drop me a message for more info.

“Let The Night Hold Sway”
Response to the recent heavy weather conditions seen here and in many parts of the country recently.

40cm x 40cm on cradled wood panel.
I just popped it into this natural frame this afternoon, which i fully intend to paint white, to get an idea of the finished look. However seeing it now I think the natural finish goes really well with the tones and the mood of the piece. What do you think 🤔?

I’ll get it on the website asap but if you are interested now feel free to message me directly.

Hope you have an enjoyable weekend 🙂.
