Tuesday 13th Feb was a great day for pike fishing history 🤯
Not only was the long standing pike record broken, but my own pike record was broken on the same day on the same lake 💪
I have been visiting Chew Valley lake for a few days each winter for around 10 years now, and it is definitely much more challenging that it appears in social media!
I’ve always caught more than my share of pike most visits but a 30lb+ pike from there has eluded me.
Several close shaves with pike weighing 29lb and 29lb 14oz have graved my net on previous visits.
Around 5pm on Tuesday 13th my Chew lottery numbers finally came good!
One of the most amazing BIG fish I’ve been fortunate to catch weighing a HUGE 41lb 10oz picked up my herring dead bait.
Currently still on cloud nine 🤯🤯🤯🤯🐳🐳🐳🐳🐳
Massive thank you thank you to @olsharper9 for his netting skills, great photography, and help with the weighing ⚖️🐳

Currently daydreaming about giant Broadland pike, like this one from a few winters ago!

I’ve not done much serious Broadland piking for a few seasons, with big perch proving a rather enjoyable distraction in recent winters.

I’ve enjoyed a couple of days catching numbers of smaller pike on the lure kit recently, but now it’s time to step things up and get the deadbait gear sorted.

I can’t wait for that first winter take – watching the float slide away as a BIG pike trundles off with my herring! 🎣🎣🎣🎣

What are @phil_spinks favourite perch lures? 👀🎣

Phil shares his go-to lures for targeting perch, with tips and insights to help you catch more! by @phil_spinks

I’ve really enjoyed chasing Broadland perch from my own boat this autumn, but it was great to switch things up with a reservoir session alongside good friend @iamthomhunt_fishing .

There’s something pretty special about finally finding a biggun or two after a seriously tough day on the water. Makes every bit of effort worthwhile! 👌🎣

With water temperatures still pushing over 18°C on the Broads yesterday, despite it being what many would consider the traditional start of the pike season, common sense has prevailed!

I’m more than happy to leave the pike alone for now and keep chasing these beautiful river perch until things cool down a little. 🎣

Unfortunately, the boat fishing is on hold for a while after a tyre decided to split on the car while towing the boat home yesterday! 😬

Every cloud has a silver lining though… a trip away chasing some big ole carps next week 🐳🤞

Over the last couple of weeks I’ve been chasing perch on the Norfolk Broads, and what a few weeks it’s been!
Some of the most enjoyable days have been spent targeting big perch, along with good numbers of quality roach and bream, all on a long float rod and centrepin reel. 🎣

A recent trip saw a few gooduns come to the trotting tactics for both myself and @amanda.jhook . There’s something pretty special about watching that float slide away and not knowing what might be waiting at the other end!

And, of course, the added bonus of Amanda’s company — along with her fantastic photography skills! 📸👌

Plenty more exploring to do on the Broads yet. 🎣

Although it still feels a bit like mid-summer ☀️, the last week or two has seen my angling turn very autumnal!

A filming trip to the Trent produced a few lovely barbel, while I’ve also enjoyed some brilliant days out in the boat targeting all sorts — including some big perch, roach and mullet, and even a bit of trotting for bream 🎣👌

Autumn really is a mega time to be out on the bank or afloat, and with plenty of good fishing still to come, I reckon the best is yet to come! 🍁🎣👌

When the wind finally eased, the sea in Cornwall last week became beautifully clear once again 👌

After a frustrating few days of high winds and rough seas, the conditions finally fell perfect for my last morning in Cornwall, so I headed back to one of my favourite rock marks. 🎣🌊

Several beautiful ballan wrasse smashed my lures, making for some fantastic fishing.

Then things got even more exciting when a group of aggressive bass started chasing my lure right to the surface! As I cranked it in fast to avoid the kelp and rocks below, I was just about to lift it out of the water when, to my surprise, a bass smashed it right off the surface! 💥🐟

Mega fishing in the most spectacular surroundings. 👌🪨🌊🎣

Specimen Series is now live 🎥🎣

Some really smart filming of summer chub smashing floating bread if I do say so myself 🤣
Hats off to @amanda.jhook for capturing the moment perfectly while poor ole @chris_ansell was laid up with bad back.

Always appreciated the love Specimen Series gets & hopefully this episode doesn’t disappoint 🎣🎣🎣
