Texas native and Los Angeles-based producer/engineer, Phillip Broussard, has had a long and storied career. He has worked on pivotal records from a wide-ranging list of artists like Adele, Red Hot Chili Peppers, System of a Down, Jay-Z, Linkin Park, The Chicks, Neil Young, and more. Geoff Stanfield caught up with Phillip from his studio in Southern California to discuss his early years in Austin, engineering at Daniel Lanois’ Kingsway studio in New Orleans, his eventual move to Los Angeles, and his longtime working relationship with Rick Rubin. LISTEN: Link in Bio Episode made possible with support from AKG #phillipbroussardjr #podcast #audioengineer #audioproduction by @phillipbroussardjr
As I was unpacking boxes and listening to records as we just moved back in to our home from the Eaton Canyon fires. I came across my copy of White Blood Cells on Sympathy For The Record Industry label. How appropriate as the White Stripes just inducted into the rock n roll hall of fame. While I’m no real believer in this hall of fame and that may be controversial. I don’t care. What I do care is that Jack and Meg 100% belong in some or ALL of Hall Of Fames. I saw them back at Spaceland in 2001 just after Spoon played. Couldn’t have been 100 people there max. I bought this record the next day at Amoeba Hollywood and it completely blew me away. So good to hear this again. I’ve followed their career and Jacks solo efforts along the way. They and he deserve every accolade coming their way. So honest, so real and such raw power. The conviction is real. So happy to listen to this considering the year we’ve had and this album brings a total smile to my face! by @phillipbroussardjr
RIP Jack DeJohnette. I’m not sure where to begin. So many records. So many tunes. So many fills. So many grooves. So much pocket. Thank you for your work. I’m still studying. Rest easy Maestro! by @phillipbroussardjr
It started back in 2017 when I transferred a massive batch of DAT audio tapes of the live tour of 1999 and 2000 into Pro Tools. Hours, days, weeks and even years later, this is the fruit of such labor. Released this past September 5th. I was fortunately involved early on from an archiving standpoint and honored to mix the live material for release. Had a great time mixing and going through this process. Big shout out to @toddburke and strypio for technical assistance, @5bam for the support and love and @slipknot. @mshawncrahan for the trust and love through the years! by @phillipbroussardjr
