😴 Better sleep starts with better breathing.

Did you know that the way you breathe may affect your sleep quality?

🌬️ Mouth breathing can be associated with snoring and disrupted sleep.
👃 Nose breathing helps filter and humidify the air you breathe.
🫁 Slow, diaphragmatic breathing can help your body unwind before bedtime.

At our chiropractic office, we believe wellness goes beyond the adjustment. Movement, relaxation, breathing habits, and sleep all play a role in how you feel.

How Caffeine Impacts Chiropractic Care:

☕️ Muscle Tension and Rigidity: Caffeine is a central nervous system stimulant that can increase overall muscle tone. High caffeine intake shifts the body into a sympathetic “fight-or-flight” state, elevating cortisol (stress hormones). This can result in tighter paraspinal muscles, jaw clenching, and increased joint dysfunction, making it more difficult for a chiropractor to restore proper spinal movement.

☕️Dehydration and Spinal Discs: Caffeine acts as a mild diuretic. When your body is dehydrated, your muscles lose fluid and become rigid, making them less capable of supporting your spine.

☕️Masking Pain Before Appointments: Consuming heavy amounts of caffeine or taking caffeine-enhanced painkillers immediately before an adjustment can temporarily mask your symptoms. This alters your perception of pain and makes it difficult for your chiropractor to accurately evaluate your musculoskeletal health.

☕️Slowing Post-Adjustment Recovery: After an adjustment, your body needs rest and proper hydration to heal and minimize post-treatment soreness. Because caffeine can disrupt deep sleep cycles and trigger restlessness, consuming it right after a session can slow your body’s natural healing process.

👉🏼Recommendations for Chiropractic Patients:

Skip Before Your Visit: Avoid high-caffeine beverages (like espresso or energy drinks) for a few hours before your appointment so your provider can get an accurate assessment.

The 1:1 Flush Rule: If you consume a caffeinated beverage, drink an equal amount of water within 30 minutes to counteract its dehydrating effects.

Delay Morning Intake: Consider adopting a routine where you wait 60 to 90 minutes after waking up to have your first cup of coffee. This allows your body’s natural waking hormones to balance out, reducing your reliance on caffeine to feel alert.

Wake up with neck or shoulder pain? Your body may be sending you a message. 😴

The way you sleep, your pillow height, and your overall alignment can all affect how your neck and shoulders feel when you wake up.

The good news? Small changes to your sleep setup can make a big difference.

✅ Better alignment
✅ Less tension
✅ More comfortable mornings

If you’re waking up stiff, sore, or constantly adjusting your sleeping position, it may be time to take a closer look at what’s happening overnight.

Poor sleep often stems from physical discomfort, spinal misalignments, or nervous system stress that makes it hard to relax or stay comfortable.

Issues like forward head posture, a misaligned spine, or poor ergonomics put pressure on nerves and strain muscles, making it difficult to find a comfortable sleeping position.

How Chiropractic Care Can Help:
💪🏼 Spinal Adjustments: Realigning the vertebrae relieves pressure on joints, nerves, and surrounding tissues to reduce chronic pain.

💪🏼 Muscle Tension Release: Treatments help relax tight, overworked muscles caused by poor posture or daily stress.
Nervous System Support: Restoring proper alignment supports healthier nerve signaling, helping the body wind down naturally.

💪🏼 Holistic Guidance: Chiropractors often recommend targeted ergonomic tweaks, sleeping postures (such as side or back sleeping with proper pillow support), and relaxation habits. #chiropractic #phoenixrisingwellnesscenter #officehumor #getadjusted by @phoenixrisingwc
