I had the opportunity to visit the Dr. Kwame Nkrumah Park. A land space that Africans were forbidden by European colonial rulers from entering. This went on for years. Dr. Nkrumah was independent Ghana’s first prime minister.
This park tells the history of his contributions to making Ghana a great country.
Sadly, he was ousted in a coup and most of his visionary leadership work was stalled or undone.
Black Star Square stands as a tribute to his work and a reminder of the great future that lies ahead for Ghana.

I finally made it to my ancestral homeland! The past few weeks I was overwhelmed with joy and gratitude for the opportunity to connect with my ancestors in Ghana.
This is a dream of mine that I held for many years and now I am grateful for having the chance to meet my ancestors- those who sacrificed their lives for me and those who are alive today.
It was a remarkable journey mentally, physically, emotionally and spiritually.

The video is part of my naming ceremony and welcome back as a descendant of the Bonwire Clan. It was a moving ceremony that left me feeling grounded and connected to my ancestors and my family. We were able to select traditional kente cloth for our ceremony. The picture shows a kente cloth factory.
Thanks to @ultimateghanatours for curating this life altering experience for me and my family members. Our chaperone William, owner of Ultimate Ghana tours was the best! He attended to every single detail to ensure that we had the best experience possible. Thanks a bunch William 🙏🏾 by @phyllisreidjarvis

Me with a few of the winners… some took trophies home and others got honourable mentions… all winners! by @phyllisreidjarvis

I am honoured to have been invited to be a part of a panel to select the 2024 recipients of the Manitoba Immigrant Excellence Merit Awards (MIEMAS). This award- the first of its kind in Manitoba, acknowledges the many outstanding individuals who have served and continue to serve our city and province tirelessly. These are folks who left their home country to immigrate to Canada. There were many who brought home trophies to celebrate their contributions to building a vibrant community and country.
There were many who had honourable mentions, knowing that their work in our community is valued and appreciated. Thanks to the organizers Aid.com and Swifte radio and the many sponsors who made this happen. Hope to see you all at the 2025 ceremonies😊 by @phyllisreidjarvis
