We service our cars to keep them running well. Why should our bodies be any different?

Physical Health Maintenance (PHM) is an approach that encourages us to care for our physical health before a major problem forces us to.

It focuses on understanding our daily physical demands, maintaining our physical capacity, and taking practical steps to keep moving, functioning and living well.
My goal is to help you move from simply knowing what to do to taking action.

Don't wait for pain. Protect your body.

You don’t always need a long workout to take care of your body. Sometimes, just 5 minutes of movement at intervals during your day can make a difference.

The key is consistency. Take regular movement breaks, interrupt prolonged sitting, and give your body the attention it deserves.

Start where you are. Move a little. Keep going.

PhysioTMJ — Maintain. Build. Move. Live.

We service our cars to keep them running well, but how often do we intentionally maintain our physical health?

Many of us only pay attention when pain, stiffness, weakness or reduced function begins to interfere with daily life.

But what if we started paying attention earlier?
As a Doctor of Physiotherapy, I believe physical health should be about more than treating problems when they arise. It should also be about maintaining the physical capacity we need to work, live, move and age well.

This is the thinking behind my Physical Health Maintenance (PHM) system: helping people understand their bodies, recognise their needs and take practical steps towards maintaining their physical health.

Because knowing what to do is only the beginning. We need to turn that knowledge into action.

Your car has a maintenance routine. What's your plan for maintaining your body?

Share your thoughts in the comments, and save this post as a reminder to take your physical health seriously.

Your physical capacity has a daily workload

Your body works every day, walking, standing, working, lifting and carrying out daily activities.

The question is: can your current physical capacity keep up with your daily demands?

Understanding this relationship is an important step towards maintaining your physical health.
