High Flyer Of The Month 🏆
Gemma Bayliffe-Newby

Gemma initially began her Pilates journey with me a few years ago, as a 1:1 client.
Gemma worked hard on her programme to address her long standing back issues and started to feel the benefit.

From there Gemma moved to my community mat classes and has continued to go from strength to strength.

Gemma has shown improvements in all key areas. Her attendance and consistency are always first class.

Gemma is a ray of sunshine and a joy to teach.
This lady is strong inside and out.

Congratulations to Gemma, what a star ⭐️ 👏

Core Communication 🧠

Muscles and bones do not have a mind of their own, their actions are coordinated and activated via the nervous system and the motor control centre of the brain.

Coordinated movement requires the brain to integrate data from vision, the inner ear (vestibular system), and body awareness (proprioception) to safely drive muscle output.

Ultimately, you can’t train a muscle that your nervous system isn’t communicating with.
The deep core muscles function differently from the more superficial muscles.

They anticipate when you are going to move and prepare your spine to absorb or transfer forces and impact away from the joints.

For the lumbo-pelvic region these include transversus abdominis, multifidus, the pelvic floor and breathing diaghragm.

Once a client can locate, communicate and activate the deep muscle system, it is then time to apply more load and movement variation.

STRONG BY RUTH
COURSE 2 COMPLETED ✅

What a group this is, I honestly couldn’t be prouder of them.
They have worked incredibly hard and achieved so much in the past 8 weeks.

We have people of all ages, some managing clinical conditions and others simply wanting to improve their strength, fitness and overall wellbeing.

Regardless of their starting point, they have all shown amazing commitment, supported one another brilliantly and worked hard to master good technique and progress at a safe, gradual pace. 🙌

It has been an absolute joy to watch their confidence grow, their strength improve and their abilities develop throughout the courses🫶

Mechanical Load 🦴

Bone is living tissue that is constantly being broken down and rebuilt through a process called bone remodelling. As we age, and as women go through hormonal imbalances in the menopausal life phase, this balance can shift, causing bone loss to exceed bone formation.

Mechanical loading is the force placed on bones during movement, exercise, and everyday activities. These forces stimulate bone cells to adapt, helping maintain or improve bone strength and density.

When we put bones under resistance, lift weights, or jump, they experience forces from gravity, muscle contractions, and impact. Bone cells detect these forces and send signals that help regulate bone remodelling, including the formation of new bone.

Bones respond to the magnitude, rate, direction and repetition of the forces placed on them.

The effective load depends on the bone, the person’s age, training history, health and current bone density.

As a women’s health specialist with many years of experience and training around bone health strategies, I am passionate about educating and advising clients on the best way to implement effective and appropriate bone loading exercises and health strategies.

Ultimately we aim to gradually challenge bones more than they are accustomed to, whilst allowing adequate recovery, eating a nutrient rich diet and managing stress. #bonehealth #osteoporosis #womenshealth #menshealth #wemove by @pilatesbyruth

It’s All About You 🫶

Progress can be seen and felt in so many different ways.

For some, progress might be mastering a new movement or feeling stronger. For others, it might be improved flexibility, better balance, less tension, or simply feeling more confident in their own body.

Sometimes, progress is pushing yourself a little further. Other times, it’s listening to your body, slowing down, and recognising what you need that day.

There is no timeline and no need to compare your journey to anyone else’s.

Pilates is about so much more than what you can see on the outside. It’s about how you feel, how you move, and the little changes that build over time.

Stretch & Mobility

It’s Stretch and mobility week and this is why we do, what we do 🫶

Regular Stretching exercises increase passive flexibility, helping to keep muscles and connective tissues supple, allowing your joints to move freely.

Consistent mobility work adds strength, coordination, and control so you can safely use that range during everyday life activities or sporting performance.
