At the weekend we visited one of Sheffield’s most popular iconic traditional pubs, The Frog & Parrot. Located on Division Street, this lively and characterful pub has lots of connections to the city’s music scene.

Unfortunately on this occasion the Guinness was pretty rubbish! To start off with, the pint was poured very quickly in a two part pour. It wasn’t given a great time to settle in between pours which was disappointing as we felt it was so rushed.

Presentation wise, the pints also didn’t have a lot going for them, they were poured in two dirty greasy glasses. Secondly, they were presented with a very flat but bubbly head!

Taste wise, the pints were freezing cold. They lacked any real Guinness flavour and basically just tasted like water - which had a very distinctive after taste. Because the pint was that cold it meant that it was flat as a pancake.

Disappointing to say the least! We definitely expected better seeing that this is one of Sheffield’s most famous drinking holes.

After a well deserved summer break Pints of G are officially back! To celebrate our return, we visited a venue thats been on our list quite sometime, The Irish. Situated on one of Sheffields most popular drinking spots, Ecclesfield Road!

Opening in October last year, The Irish is a modern Irish Bar that serves an all round good Guinness. Firstly, the pint was poured in the traditional two part pour and was given a nice lengthy settle. Once the pour was finished the pint was presented well, it had a respectable sized domey head. The Irish do opt for some artwork on top of their Guinness’ head using their fancy Guinness printing machine! The Guinness was poured in a classic tulip style glass however the only downside to the pint was that the glass was a little dirty.

Taste wise, the pint was full of flavour. It was thick and creamy. It wasn’t too warm and was pretty much the perfect temperature. The pints head kept its shape and size as the pint was consumed, which always calls for a good pint.

A massive thank you to the Irish for having us, the staff were super friendly and we’ll definitely be back soon!

Yesterday evening we visited another establishment that has been on our bucket list for quite sometime. This is arguably Putney’s most famous pub, the fantastic @bricklayersarms_putney . We’ve heard so many good things throughout the years about this classic boozer!

Firstly, the pint was poured from the pubs old retro Guinness box tap. It was poured in a traditional two part pour and was given a lengthy settle time.

After a short while the pint was presented beautifully, it came in a clean tulip style glass and was presented with a thick creamy dome on top.

Taste wise the pint was pretty much a 10/10 it had great flavours, was thick and creamy and went down a real treat. This pint was definitely in the same league as some pints in Ireland!

Yesterday afternoon we called into the traditional Boatmans Rest in Worsbrough, Barnsley. The sun was out which caused some serious beer garden weather.

This old country-style pub serves up a cracking pint of Guinness. It was poured from one of their two Guinness taps, using a proper two-part pour and given plenty of time to settle.

Presentation wise, the pint could’ve been better. The glass had quite a few greasy marks, and the head was slightly big and also lacked in domage.

Taste wise, it was very pleasant — thick, creamy and left plenty of shtick once finished. At £4.95, you could definitely have a decent session on this.

Would you have one here?

£𝟑 𝐆𝐔𝐈𝐍𝐍𝐄𝐒𝐒 𝐈𝐍 𝐋𝐄𝐄𝐃𝐒!

At the weekend we revisited our good friends @oportobarleeds .

Between the hours of 12pm and 3pm you can get a pint of G for just £3, everyday just not Mondays! This is cheaper than Wetherspoons and surely has to be Leeds’ cheapest Guinness!?

The Guinness in here is honestly so so good, to be fair we’ve always said that this is one of Leeds’ best pints.

Go get your £3 Guinness now!

On Friday night we visited one of our favourite establishments in our hometown of Barnsley, The Garrison. Since starting PintsofG back in 2023 we have always said that The Garrison consistently pours Barnsley’s best pint of Guinness. And on Friday this was definitely no different.

The pints were thick and creamy, tasted fantastic and were a very nice temperature. The pints were presented fantastically, they were poured in an original style tulip glass and were finished off with two creamy domey heads. Perfection 🤌🏼

This weekend we paid a visit to the wonderful Centre Parcs at Sherwood Forest, Nottingham. Whilst we there we visited one of their numerous venues, The Dozing Duck. Unfortunately on this occasion the pint of G was absolutely honking (pun intended).

Firstly, the pint was a whopping £7.50! The pint was poured in a two part pour however we felt it was kind of rushed. The head on the pint was extremely large, it also had a dirty brown tint to it. Talking of dirty, the glass was also filthy. It was covered in dirty greasy marks. Yuck!

Taste was unfortunately no better. The pint lacked any real taste, it was very flat, was watery and was very bitter. After paying a crazy £7.50 we tried finishing the pint, but we just couldn’t.

Certainly not a creamer.

𝐀𝐕𝐄𝐑𝐀𝐆𝐄 𝐏𝐈𝐍𝐓 𝐈𝐍 𝐁𝐔𝐑𝐍𝐋𝐄𝐘’𝐒 𝐒𝐏𝐎𝐎𝐍𝐒.

This afternoon we visited Burnley’s Wetherspoons, The Boot Inn. Whilst we were there we obviously had to try their pint of G! At a reasonable price of £3.69 the Guinness was very average at best.

Firstly, the pint was poured in a traditional two part pour, it was given a really long settle time. Something which Wetherspoons don’t normally tend to do, they normally just quickly rush the settle.

Presentation wise the pint wasn’t bad at all, it was poured in a nice clean tulip style glass. The head was a reasonable size. The only downside was that the pint literally had no dome at all.

Now taste wise, the pint was very cold, which meant that a lot of the flavours were unfortunately lost. Surprisingly though the pint was very creamy and left a good ‘shtick’ once finished.

All in all, a very average Wetherspoons Guinness, at a very cheap price! Obviously we didn’t expect much and it certainly didn’t blow our socks off but it definitely wasn’t the worst pint we’ve ever had!
