According to reports, Karmelo Anthony’s mother, Kala Hayes, took the stand and pleaded with jurors before they decided her son’s sentence. Hayes testified shortly after Anthony was found guilty of murdering Austin Metcalf, telling the 12-member jury that her son is deeply remorseful for his actions. During questioning, prosecutors asked whether she still loved her son. They also asked if she understood that, regardless of the outcome, he would remain a part of her life. “Yes, I do,” Hayes responded.
