DJ lessons have now officially wrapped up and the countdown to show day is onnnn 🔥 If you’re new here, hellooo! 👋🏻 I’m Plain Janeless and I’m playing my first ever DJ set THIS WEEKEND on 21 June at Prince Bandroom (!!). Tickets on sale until Wednesday. ⚜️⚜️⚜️⚜️⚜️ The fifth and final DJ lesson gave everyone in the class an opportunity to play 10 minutes of their set. Honestly, this was my favourite session yet. The people in my training session are incredible, and it was so fun seeing everyone perform. I had really locked in between week 4 and 5 to prep for the 10 minute set and felt it really paid off. I am currently putting the finishing touches on my set and am so keen to playyyy 🕺🏼 🎧 Debut DJ set 🗓️ Sunday, 21 June 2026 ⏰ 12pm - late (exact set time TBA on Wed) 📍 Prince Bandroom, St Kilda There are two ways to purchase tickets 🎟️ DM me to purchase a hard copy ticket 🎫 Buy a ticket online at https://www.yourshotdj.com/tickets (link in bio). It is officially week 4 of the 2026 @yourshotau Melbourne competition and since my last recap, I’ve had DJ lessons number 3 & 4. If you’re new here, hellooo! 👋🏻 I’m Plain Janeless and I’m playing my first ever DJ set on 21 June at Prince Bandroom (!!). Just three weeks away! ⚜️⚜️⚜️⚜️⚜️ The third DJ lesson was all about the EQs - how to control the frequencies of incoming and outgoing tracks to create a seamless mix. And honestly, this was the hardest lesson for me yet. It just didn’t quite click. I left the session feeling a little defeated but determined to improve. However, the week that followed was busy, and procrastination kept me away from the decks for the most part. I went into the fourth DJ session locked in. After learning about looping and special effects, I opted to practice using the speakers. This made a huge difference, as I could actually hear why it was important for EQs to be used. I also felt encouraged to take my time during transitions and exercise restraint. All in all, I’m starting to feel a lot more positive about where my set is going (yaaaaay). Stay tuned for week 5 - the final week of lessons !! 👀👀 by @plainjaneless
Refining, refining, refining. Finally getting the concept of EQs and why using them is so important during a transition. To think I couldn’t do any of this just a few weeks ago!! #yourshot #zerotohero by @plainjaneless

It is officially week 2 of the 2026 @yourshotau Melbourne competition and I’ve now had my second DJ lesson. If you’re new here, welcome! 👋🏻 I’m Plain Janeless and I’m playing my first ever DJ set in less than 5 weeks (!!). The only catch is that I’ve got to learn to DJ from scratchhhh 🫦 ⚜️⚜️⚜️⚜️⚜️ The second DJ lesson really took things up a notch. After starting with a quiz to test our knowledge of basic music theory, our trainer Alex showed us how to analyse and breakdown songs using rekordbox software. This included how to read wavelengths and use hot cues and memory cues to create seamless transitions. This all seemed pretty straight forward, until it was time to put it into practice. After a few USB-related hiccups, I managed to analyse my songs on rekordbox and load them onto the decks. It was at this moment that the art form behind DJing was quietly revealed, as I learnt that not all songs mix well together. My work is well and truly cut out for me 😃 Stay tuned for week 3 - it’s all getting a lot more real now 👀👀👀 #zerotohero by @plainjaneless
