Garden Bed Transformation Complete! 🌿✨ We’ve just wrapped up a fantastic garden bed renovation, working closely alongside the client to bring their vision to life. Here is a look at what we achieved: Clearance & Relocation: Old, tired shrubs were carefully removed. While some were reused where needed, older shrubs that didn't quite fit into the new planting scheme were also given a great new home elsewhere! Reshaping & Edging: We completely reshaped the bed and installed stunning, durable corten steel edging supplied by @sherborneturfdorset for a crisp, modern finish. Thoughtful Planting: The customer had lovingly grown on a mixture of plants alongside those rescued from other parts of the garden (which were waiting in the wings for their new spot!). The Plant Palette: We integrated a gorgeous selection including Hydrangea Annabelle, Pittosporum Tom Thumb, Stipa tenuissima, Aster mönch, Astrantia 'Roma', and Geranium 'Rozanne'. This is complemented by a cluster of highly fragrant roses that flow seamlessly into the bed beyond, all tied together with sweeping swathes of Alliums woven throughout. It’s amazing what can be achieved by repurposing existing plants and pairing them with a fresh, clean structure. Drop me a message if you'd like to revamp your outdoor space for the coming season! #GardenDesign #GardenRenovation #PlantItRight #WiltshireGardener #CortenSteelEdging #GardenInspiration #RightPlantRightPlace #Horticulture by @plantitright
Taming the climbers... with a spicy surprise! ✂️🌿🐝 A good chunk of my day was spent tackling a serious reduction on a Hydrangea petiolaris (climbing hydrangea) and a Campsis (trumpet vine). Both are absolutely stunning climbers, but they are incredibly vigorous and need a firm hand to keep them in check and looking their best! I got the main growth significantly reduced and shaped back, but if you're wondering why I left some of those stubborn aerial roots clinging to the brickwork... nature had other plans! I ended up disturbing an active wasps' nest tucked away. 🐝 Sometimes in this job, you just have to admit defeat, back away slowly, and let the wildlife dictate the schedule! I’ll be back to clear the rest once the coast is clear. Safety first! 🌱 Growing Success from the Root Up 🌱 #GardenMaintenance #Pruning #HydrangeaPetiolaris #Campsis #ClimbingPlants #WiltshireGardener #WestburyBusiness #GardeningLife #WaspNest #WildlifeGardening #RHSCertified #RightPlantRightPlace by @plantitright

Nursery days are the best days! 🌿🚐 I popped over to the brilliant @downsidenurseries yesterday to source some fresh winter bedding for one of my clients. It is the perfect time to get those seasonal planters and pots fully prepped so they look vibrant and full throughout the colder months! I picked up a fantastic mix to create some really striking, resilient displays, including: 🌸 A beautiful variety of winter Pansies and Violas for that essential pop of colour. 🌿 Hedera helix 'Silver' (trailing ivy) to spill perfectly over the edges. ❄️ Cineraria for its brilliant, frosty silver foliage. 🍁 Heuchera to add incredible structure and deep, rich seasonal tones. While I was there sorting the customer's order, I had a fantastic personal win 🏆 I finally managed to get my hands on a Laburnum 'Yellow Rocket' that I’ve been hunting for! It’s a stunning, narrow upright variety, and I cannot wait to get it planted. A massive thank you to Jack at the nursery for the great help! It makes all the difference when you can rely on fantastic, knowledgeable local staff when sourcing top-quality stock. 🌱 Growing Success from the Root Up 🌱 #PlantItRight #DownsideNurseries #WinterBedding #WinterPlanters #ContainerGardening #PlantSourcing #LaburnumYellowRocket #Heuchera #Pansies #RightPlantRightPlace #Westbury #WiltshireGardener #WestburyBusiness #GardenMaintenance #Horticulture #RHSCertified by @plantitright
Sharpening up the summer flush! ✂️🌿✨ While my main focus is always my own clients, one of the best parts of working on an estate is getting hands-on with classic formal features like this yew parterre. Yew is a fantastic evergreen, but after it puts on all its new, fluffy green growth over the season, it quickly loses that sharp, structural look. The job here was simply to cut back all that new growth and lock those crisp geometric edges back in. Tackling this kind of intricate work takes a steady hand and a lot of focus, but it is incredibly satisfying to step back and see the classic pattern re-emerge! First Impressions Matter! 🏡✨ A tidy garden can make all the difference when you are putting your house on the market! I recently popped over to a customer who had a house viewing lined up and needed a quick garden rescue to boost their curb appeal. When potential buyers arrive, an overgrown garden can be an instant red flag, but a neat, welcoming space sets the perfect tone for the rest of the tour. Here is exactly what I tackled to get this garden viewing-ready: ✂️Strim & Mow: I gave the lawn a thorough strim and mow to instantly restore structure and make the whole space look cared for. 🌾Taming the Sedge: I dug out and removed a massive patch of Pendulous Sedge ( #Westbury #WiltshireGardener #WestburyBusiness #GardenClearance #LawnCare #GardenMaintenance #CarexPendula #WeedControl #Horticulture #RHSCertified #LocalGardener by @plantitright
The Secret to Brilliant, Minimal-Waste Winter Wall Displays! 🧺❄️🌿 It is that time of year again! I am currently busy getting winter wall display baskets prepped and planted so they can establish before the real cold sets in. When it comes to seasonal displays, I try to stick to one major rule: keeping waste to an absolute minimum! Instead of throwing plants away when spring arrives, I focus heavily on using beautiful, hardy plants that can be planted straight out into the garden afterwards to live on for years. My absolute go-to choices for this are structural evergreen ferns, ornamental grasses, stunning hellebores, and vibrant heucheras. To give these plants the best possible start, I always use peat-free compost. It is brilliant for the environment, but it does have a tendency to drain quickly and wash nutrients away faster than traditional soil. That is exactly why I always mix @grassgains Plant Gains 6-Month Feed into my compost! Here is why it is an absolute essential for winter planting: ▪ 🌿 Tailored for Peat-Free: It is specifically formulated to replenish the exact nutrients that tend to leach out of peat-free compost, keeping the soil profile perfectly balanced. ▪ ⏳ True Slow-Release: One application lasts for a full 6 months. This means it will continuously feed the display right through the coldest months, saving you from having to use liquid feeds in freezing weather! ▪ 💪 Winter Resilience: It delivers a steady, reliable supply of nutrients straight to the roots. This gives the plants the strength they need to brave the frost now, and ensures they are incredibly healthy when it is time to move them into the garden next year. Taking the time to prep your compost properly right now is the key to a display that thrives instead of just survives! 🌱 Growing Success from the Root Up 🌱 #WinterBaskets #WallDisplays #MinimalWasteGardening #SustainableGardening #ContainerGardening #GrassGains #PlantGains #PeatFreeCompost #Hellebores #Heuchera #RightPlantRightPlace #Westbury #WiltshireGardener #WestburyBusiness #GardenMaintenance #Horticulture #RHSCertified by @plantitright
Lawn Recovery Season is Officially Here! 🌱🚑 The intense summer heat stress has finally broken, which means if your grass is looking a bit tired, patchy, or yellow, now is the exact right time to bring it back to life! Autumn is the most crucial time for lawn renovations. The soil is still warm, but the heavy heat has passed, creating the perfect conditions for new seed to establish. Here is the ultimate process I use to revive my clients' lawns: ▪ ✂️ The Prep Mow: Dropping the mower blade slightly to tidy up the growth and prep the surface for the real work. ▪ 🧹 Scarifying: Raking out all the dead thatch and moss that built up over the summer. (The lawn always looks a bit worse before it looks better, but trust the process!) ▪ 🔱 Aerating: Spiking the lawn to relieve soil compaction, allowing the roots to breathe and improving drainage ahead of the winter rain. ▪ 🌱 Overseeding: Filling in the bare patches and thickening up the sward with fresh, high-quality seed from @GrassGains. ▪ 🟤 Top Dressing: Brushing in a fantastic layer of @rocketgro Top Dressing to protect the new seed, improve the soil structure, and level out any lumps and bumps. ▪ 💧 The Autumn Feed: Finishing it all off with a premium autumn feed from @GrassGains to give the grass a serious nutrient boost, encouraging deep root growth before winter sets in. I always highly recommend investing in professional-grade products like these to get that resilient, lush green finish! 📧 Are you one of my current customers? The Autumn Shift: Taming Hedges & Planting Spring Colour! 🍂✂️🌷 September is here, and the rhythm of the garden is officially changing. The manic summer growth is slowing down, bringing us straight into two of the most important (and satisfying) jobs of the horticultural calendar! ✂️ Hedge Cutting Season Now that bird nesting season is safely behind us, it is time to bring those overgrown boundaries back under control. ▪ Crisp Winter Lines: Getting your hedges trimmed, reduced, and squared off now means they will look sharp and tidy all the way through the bare winter months. ▪ Health & Structure: Taking the top weight off now prevents heavy winter weather and high winds from snapping branches, keeping the hedge thick and healthy. 🌷 Prepping for Spring (Bulb Planting!) It might feel a bit strange to think about spring when the leaves are just starting to turn, but now is the exact time to get your spring-flowering bulbs in the ground! ▪ Get Them In: Daffodils, crocuses, and alliums need to go in now while the soil still has some warmth, allowing them to establish a strong root system before the frost hits. (I always save the tulips for November to avoid tulip fire!) ▪ Planning the Display: I’ll be busy designing and planting bulb layers in the borders so that my clients get a continuous, blooming wave of colour from February right through to May. The hard graft we put in right now is exactly what makes the spring garden so spectacular. Time to get the hedge trimmers out and the bulb planters ready! 💪 #PlantItRight #RightPlantRightPlace #GardenMaintenance #WiltshireGardener #HedgeCutting #BulbPlanting #SpringBulbs #AutumnGardening #Horticulture #PristineGardens #GardenCare by @plantitright
The Ultimate Bed Revival! 🌿💪✨ If you saw my recent posts about the nightmare of bindweed and plastic weed membrane, you will know that this particular bed was basically the ultimate gardening boss fight! It started out covered in overgrown grass and exhausted old raspberry canes. Lurking underneath was my absolute pet hate...old plastic weed suppressant, and weaving through all of it was a heavy bindweed infestation. Here is how I brought this bed back from the brink and prepped it for fresh planting: ⛏️ The Strip & Dig: I stripped the top layer, ripped out the plastic membrane, and then dug the entire bed over by hand. This is crucial when dealing with bindweed, as even the tiniest fragment of root left behind will regenerate! I painstakingly teased out as much as humanly possible. 📦 The Cardboard Hack: Instead of putting down more plastic, I upcycled! The client had lots of old removal boxes. As long as you remove all the sellotape and avoid heavy ink prints, plain cardboard makes an incredible, natural weed barrier that eventually rots down and feeds the earthworms. 🌧️ Nature’s Timing: A perfectly timed downpour soaked the cardboard, helped the bed settle, and locked in a massive amount of moisture. 🐄 The Finishing Touch: To complete the revival, I cut in a sharp, crisp edge and applied a thick, rich top-dress of @rocketgro Farmyard Manure. This bed is now resting, recharging, and full of nutrients. It will be ready to plant up very soon! ☺️ #PlantItRight #RightPlantRightPlace #BedRevival #GardenTransformation #GardenMaintenance #WiltshireGardener #NoDigGardening #CardboardMulch #Bindweed #RocketGro #FarmyardManure #SoilHealth #Horticulture #EcoGardening by @plantitright
Watching a Garden Evolve! 🌿✨ It is incredibly rewarding to watch a garden take shape over time. Over the last few months, I’ve been working on a beautiful transformation for a client, and it is finally coming together perfectly! Here is a look at what we’ve been up to: 🌸 Expanding the Borders: We widened the main borders to give the planting more breathing room. The garden has a gorgeous, calming palette of blues, silvers, and whites, so I introduced some Salvia 'Amistad'. Its deep, striking purple flowers perfectly complement the cooler tones. To finish the beds, everything got a thick, rich layer of @rocketgro Magic Mulch to suppress weeds and lock in the moisture. 🪴 A Climber Rescue Mission: The existing Trachelospermum jasminoides (Star Jasmine) were really struggling in their old, cramped pots. We upgraded them to much larger planters, replaced the tired old climbing supports, and mixed in some @grassgains Plant Gains 6-Month Feed to revive them. They are already looking so much happier and healthier! ❄️ Looking Ahead to Winter: A gardener’s work is never done! There are a few plants in the borders that aren't quite in the right place, but patience is key. I’ll be waiting for the winter dormancy period before carefully lifting and moving them so they don't get stressed. While we are at it this winter, we will also be adding another climbing jasmine and a stunning Wisteria to completely envelop and soften the shed area with lush foliage and incredible scent. I absolutely love how this space is developing. What is your favourite plant for a calming colour palette?
