POSTS STORIES REELS

In January, I put myself to a task “How do I tell the ≈ 3-year story of PlasticWize 2.0 in under 180 seconds” Now the Video is ready! ☺️⬆️

PlasticWize is a flagship initiative by my, NGO, U-recycle Initiative Africa supporting universities to transition to plastic-free, circular economy driven campuses. We are on a mission to innovate out of plastic.

Founded in 2018, U-recycle Initiative Africa is one of Africa’s Largest youth-led environmental NGO equipping African youths to co-create a sustainable future through world-class experiential training, circular innovation, and research.

Following the success of one of our flagship initiative, PlasticWize 1.0 From May 2022 – May 2023, PlasticWize 2.0’s innovation journey commenced in August 2023 upon winning grant funding from The Global environment Facility @gef_global_environment

Through PlasticWize 2.0 we are deploying various social innovations at four universities with a focus on

- equipping students and universities to be more environmentally conscious,
- reducing excessive plastic waste generation on campuses,
- influencing change in behaviour and policy gaps that fuel pollution,
- advancing circular economy solutions and
- Preventing tonnes of plastic waste from reaching landfills, streets, and ocean. See highlights of what we have done so far in the video attached.

Recently, leveraging GAMIFICATION, TECHNOLOGY, RESEARCH, and COMMUNITY BUILDING, we relaunched our first-of-its-kind gamified web-app, the #iAmPlasticWize Challenge.

At this time, Over 1,000 students and counting across universities in Nigeria have signed up for the free nationwide 10-day challenge, which starts today. It’s been demanding, but the impact ahead is worth it

We’re just getting started for the year and We’ve got more innovation up our sleeves in 2026.

Huge thank you to everyone who has supported this from idea to execution and sustainability and special thanks to the United Nations Industrial Organization @unido_org for their technical support so far. by @plasticwize

And so it begins

The BYO campaign is officially on the move, with our first stop at the University of Lagos.

Through the BYO campaign, we hope to not just inform but inspire a change in the way students across Nigerian universities relate with plastics.

As a behaviour change initiative under PlasticWize 2.0, the campaign is working to reduce single-use plastic consumption within university food systems by making reusable choices easier and more accessible.

Through behaviour change communication, vendor engagement, and the promotion of reusable alternatives, we’re bringing students and food vendors into the conversation and encouraging more sustainable practices at the point of purchase.

Creating plastic-conscious campuses isn’t just about telling people what not to use. It’s about creating an environment where better choices are practical, accessible and possible. by @plasticwize

We’re delighted to announce the launch of the PlasticWize 2.0 Bring Your Own (BYO) Campus Campaign!

Across university campuses, buying food and drinks often comes with a side of single-use plastic takeaway containers, bags, PET bottles and more. While awareness around plastic pollution continues to grow, single-use plastics remain deeply embedded in everyday campus life.

The BYO Campus Campaign is designed to help change that.

Thank you to everyone who has been a part of this Vision🔥
Thank you Lord Jesus for your Faithfulness by @plasticwize

Did you know that by 2050, plastic in our oceans could outweigh all aquatic life? The oceans are drowning in plastic. And one of the biggest contributors are student campuses.

Over the past few months, I had the honour of serving as a PlasticWize Ambassador with @urecycle_initiative and @plasticwize, representing UNIBEN and taking the fight against plastic pollution straight to the students around me.

From surveys that revealed just how much we contribute to the problem, to gamified and physical eco-talks, and the #IAmPlasticWize Challenge, every conversation and every small shift in habit counts.

I'm grateful for this experience, and I'm committed to contributing positively to my community.
Let's keep building!

Through our Behavioural Change Outreach.

We have been able to reach over 23,000 Nigerian students with the message of sustainability, action and commitment to their environment.

We continue doing this because we know that true change comes when we impact the younger generation. by @plasticwize

The future of sustainable campuses requires strong partnerships and we’re looking for recycling companies ready to be part of the solution.

U-recycle Initiative Africa is inviting registered recycling and recycling-focused enterprises with proven operational experience and a track record of excellence to join the Campus Recyclers Network.

As a network partner, your organisation will have the opportunity to:
✅ Operate within university campuses
✅ Access consistent streams of recyclable materials
✅ Increase collection rates and revenue
✅ Leverage U-recycle’s infrastructure, personnel, technology and global collaborations

Together, we can build campuses where sustainable waste management becomes the norm.

Our work is making headlines.

We are pleased to share that our work and commitment to advancing environmental sustainability have been featured across multiple news platforms, amplifying the conversations around plastic pollution, climate action, and youth-led environmental stewardship.

Every feature extends the reach of our message, bringing greater visibility to the urgent need for behavioural change and collective action toward a more sustainable future.

We are ensuring that the message of environmental responsibility reaches more communities, inspires more action, and drives lasting impact.

This is only the beginning. by @plasticwize

What will you do differently if the future of the earth depends on your actions today?

Real environmental change starts with conversations that people can relate to.

Climate action is not only about learning new concepts. It is about understanding how the choices we make every day shape the environment around us. A single plastic bottle may seem insignificant, but multiplied by millions of people, it contributes to a crisis that affects our ecosystems, public health, livelihoods, and future.

This is why awareness remains at the heart of what we do. We are committed to meeting people where they are, simplifying complex environmental issues, and inspiring practical actions that create lasting impact.

During our Behavioural Change Outreach, our PlasticWize Ambassadors at OAU engaged students in meaningful conversations, helping them see the connection between everyday habits and the growing challenge of plastic pollution. Because lasting change begins when people understand that protecting the planet starts with the choices they make every day. by @plasticwize

We are taking a moment to reflect on one of the memorable moments during the #iamplasticwize challenge. And that is the Award ceremony.

We remain committed to empowering young people to take a stand for change and environmental responsibility. This remains our drive and goal. by @plasticwize

When we see young adults committed to environmental sustainability and climate action, we are encouraged, that the next generation isn’t sitting and watching, it’s taking action.

This is why we reward the commitment and drive when we can.
In this post we have our Top ambassadors from the Behavioural Change outreach across our four universities.

As long as plastic pollution exists, we are committed to inspiring change and we are committed to doing it with the young people in our community.
