If you haven’t already… you should start! ☀️ Reading outside has plenty of benefits such as improving focus and imagination BUT why I think it’s super important is a completely different ball game. The Royal Children’s Hospital Melbourne published their national health poll and it stated less than half (45%) of children play outdoors most days. That’s 55% of children NOT playing outside every day. 57% of children aged 5 to 13 play mostly inside on a digital device. Where has their childhood gone? This terrifies me! Let’s get these kids outside. Building their immunity, creativity, focus and confidence. Soaking in the beautiful sun or adapting to the cleansing rain. Digging in the mud or searching for bugs. We have to foster and help nurture that love for nature. Let’s encourage them to get outside. One of the ways we can do that is through taking simple tasks outside… like reading 📖 Let me know your thoughts and if you’ve tried taking story time outside! by @play_togrow
Learning lately ✨ Here’s a short snippet of what we got up to this week. This doesn’t include all the day to day learning with simple and mundane tasks. I think they are most important! We followed along with @playlearnconnectthroughnature February nature guide and this week the focus was Earth 🌏 We’ll probably extend it even more into this coming week too but we learnt a lot of things: 💫 the earth is round 💫 it has water and land 💫 it has gravity 💫 gravity is like a magnet 💫 it’s invisible and everywhere 💫 Isaac Newton had a funny nose Happy Friday 🤗 by @play_togrow
It’s such a blessing to be a mother 🫶🏻 And even more so to be making my way through girlhood/womanhood with my daughter by @play_togrow
Here’s an update! We’re kicking into routine now that Daddy is back at work. I’ll have time to come on and check in here more! Honestly I didn’t feel very called to be on social media for the last few months. I am feeling the draw now that we’re settling in and down but I think you’re going to see some major changes with this account. I still love our sensory play but as L grows I grow with her in my parenting style and I can see us purchasing less and getting practical more! So if you’re up for more farm life, resources that aid us in play and home school and just some wholesome content… stick around 🤗 by @play_togrow
We’ve had to pack SMART for our move up to Queensland! 🫡 All our stuff is in storage until the end of December so we’ve been limited to what we bring. I like activities that have more than one purpose! Like this nature mat from @clever_bugs 🙌🏻 We worked on numeracy, pre writing skills and got creative with some play dough! We’ve pulled it out more than once 👌🏻 and absolutely love it! • discount code: grow10 by @play_togrow
Some fun Sheila has gotten up to so far! 🤣 I can’t believe I was so hesitant to start. This is so fun! 🤩 #elfontheshelf by @play_togrow
It’s our first time introducing Sheila the elf! 🎄 And I wanted something SIMPLE to ring in the season. I didn’t want complicated that steals joy. I didn’t want a million rules and I didn’t want to end up thinking of this as a chore. The elf kit from @clever_bugs has so many prompts on top of props it’s been so very handy already and we’re only up to day 3! How’s your elfing going? Are you into it or not so much? I sat on the fence for a little while but decided we’d do it for some Christmas fun- keeping it light and not about behaviour! •discount code @clever_bugs : grow10 by @play_togrow
What an incredible experience! 🦋 This was an early birthday present for L and she absolutely loved it. The excitement of keeping your little chrysalis safe and the anticipation of who will pop out is just all too much! It was a great way to solidify the learning we’d done in the previous weeks about butterflies and their life cycles. I can’t wait to buy a few more when we’re settled in qld and do this again! 🙌🏻 We keep seeing Monarch butterflies everywhere now too 👀 they’re beautiful things! We got our kit from @butterfly_adventures by @play_togrow
It’s tiiiiiiiiiiiiime!!! 🤶🏼 Mariah’s defrosting and it’s time for the salt dough to come out! 👏🏻 I made L a salt dough ornament for her first Christmas and 4 years later it’s still going… the secret? Seal it! Mod podge is great 🙌🏻 This simple recipe is from @theplaycard_co recipe deck! All you need is: 1 cup of salt 2 cups of flour 3/4 cup of water And you’re ready to get your Christmas fun on! 🎄 •discount code: grow10 by @play_togrow
L turns 4 🎈 We had a big shindig this time around as a final farewell to all our friends here in Puckapunyal! L chose a unicorn theme so we went to town! 🥳 The beautiful Jess from @mysunshinemindfulplay set up some unicorn themed sensory play that was an absolute HIT with the kids! 🙌🏻 Feeling very emotional at the end of the day that another lap around the sun is done for her. Never experiencing these same experiences again. 😭🥹 Ahhh man! Parenthood! by @play_togrow
A reusable gingerbread house!? 🏠 We loathe the edible gingerbread houses from the store. They usually taste horrible and never get eaten 😂 the lollies are a weird stale and the icing tastes like chemicals. This awesome gingerbread house is a great alternative and can be used over and over again! Liz from @clever_bugs comes up with the greatest ideas! The pretend okay lollies are also from @clever_bugs too! 🙌🏻 And our beautiful playdough which was perfect as icing is from the lovely Megan over @bloomchildau • @clever_bugs discount code: grow10 • @bloomchildau discount code: PTG15 by @play_togrow
Or anybody who loves a minimal effort = maximum play kind of activity! Don’t sit on gelatine! This all time favourite is simple, probably already in your cupboard and can be pretty versatile. Here I just added crystals to a gelatine mix, chucked it on the yard and let her dig around 👌🏻 it was a success to say the least. Add different tools to make it harder or easier! Thanks @theplaycard_co for the fun ideas! •discount code: grow10 by @play_togrow
