"Form is Emptiness, Emptiness is Form" 🕉️

Things and ideas go through change without our permission. Loosen the shackles of attachment and embrace the interdependence and change in everything within and around us.

This is the heart sutra teaching us the wisdom of emptiness to create space for compassion and freedom.

A moon mantra to lull your thoughts and organize your feelings.

The moon governs our deepest emotions. So it is no surprise that science suggests avoiding making decisions at night.

Instead, practice sitting with your thoughts and feelings. Ask the moon for guidance and clarity. And as the saying goes, “sleep on it.” 🌙

“O thread of my life,
if you must break, then break.
For if I continue living,
I fear my strength to conceal
this love may grow weak.“

Randomly picking a karuta card from the Anthology of 100 Classical Japanese Poems. From the Ogura set, card number 89 contains a poem of Shikishi Naishinnō (1149)—an imperial princess.

The pain of a secret love is no stranger to us. I know it well myself.

I wonder if princess Shikishi Naishinnō had ever imagined a foreign boy living in Kyoto would be doing a rendition of her poem in this way 🤭

Matangi Mantra of Creative Illumination 🪷

oṃ aiṃ sukhapriyāyai vidmahe
klīṃ kāmeśvarī dhīmahi I
tannaḥ śyāmā pracodayāt II

(“May we know She who delights in bliss. May we meditate upon Kāmeśvarī (Divine Desire). May Śyāmā (Matangi) inspire and illuminate us.”)

Matangi/Syamala is associated with speech, music, knowledge, creativity and the arts. Often described as the “raw” form of Sarasvati, Matangi is a goddess of what exists beyond conventional boundaries. She reveals wisdom, beauty and sacredness in places society may overlook or reject.

This is why Aquarius is typically linked to Matangi. Matangi embodies unconventional thinking—breaking social boundaries and expressing ideas that challenge established norms.

Illuminate your creative self. Set you free ✨

Thank you, Maa Matangi 🙏🏽🦜

A poem written by Ono no Komachi, a 9th century Japanese poet.

Said to be a passing seaside inspiration, Ono no Komachi likens the ocean waves as the sea dragon’s hair. And the seafoam coloring the waves as flower ornaments.

What a beautiful and time-transcending reminder that nature holds the divine if we choose to see it as so.

In what imagery does nature find you?

Titled 海神のかんざし (The Sea Dragon’s Hairpin), you can listen to the full track in one of my links on my page. Hope you enjoy! Would also love to hear your thoughts~

Scorpio season coming! ✨

Just a little reminder before we enter Scorpio~

Traditionally ruled by Mars—the fiery planet of courage, strength, and action. So although a water sign, Scorpio carries fire beneath the surface: deep, intuitive, resilient, and transformative.

Scorpio teaches us that transformation often begins in the unseen. And that there’s more than meets the eye.

In other words, don’t mess with a Scorpio 🦂There’s sizzling water bubbling underneath, and it just might burst if you dig at it too much. Wherever Scorpio is in your chart, or in your relationships, let’s first honor the deep by listening to what needs to be heard—or felt—before we act.

This is for all the Khmer spirits that did not have their mothers or fathers sing lullabies to them.

Usually sung in the pov of either the mother or father, I included both perspectives. Not all children had loving parents nor did they even get to know them. This is for them.

As we honor our ancestors during the season, kindly remember the spirits without families to go to and offer them food and prayers too 🙏🏽🧡

“Osmanthus wine tastes the same as I remember, but where are those who share the memory?”

There’s a Chinese legend about an osmanthus tree on the moon. A man was once sent to cut down the tree as punishment. Because you see, this tree is self-healing. And since it is self-healing, he cannot stop.

Osmanthus blooms are the fragrance of inevitable returns and memories. The lingering scent brings joy to some and sorrow for others. Memories through senses such as scent tell us about where our hearts are.

Does it bring the same feelings? Has the pain become less bitter and more sweet?

May the harvest moon festivities find you where it needs. 🧡

Smot: Khmer Poetry Chanting

This type of chanting is for those no longer with us. This, in particular, is a chant for grief and comfort—to accompany the spirits to where they need to go.

This poem is called Lea Houey, meaning farewell. It encourages the spirits to let go of their earthly attachments.

My Khmer is very broken and I've realized my pronunciation is off 😅 I am also by no means a professional in this chanting style. This is my humble rendition of just the first few lines of the larger chant.

With Pchum Ben around the corner, I wish my fellow Khmer people a smooth 15 days of honoring the ancestors and spirits 🙏🏽
