POSTS STORIES REELS

There's a little thing I look for when I'm working with kids, and it tells me a lot about their conversation skills.

I'll ask a question. They'll answer me. And then... they wait for me to ask the next one.

Sound familiar? 😂

It's not that they're being rude or don't want to talk to me. They may simply not realize that a conversation goes both ways.

Someone asks you a question, you answer, and then you show interest in the other person, too. That's how we turn a series of questions and answers into an actual conversation.

And one of the easiest ways to teach that?

“What about you?”

That's it! Three little words that help a child show interest, keep a conversation going, and make the other person feel included.

Try it tonight. Ask your child about their day and see whether they ask you about yours. If they don't, give them a little reminder. We can't expect kids to automatically know these things. Sometimes, they just need us to teach them.

Because good conversation isn't just about knowing what to say. It's also about showing someone that you're interested in what they have to say.

Save this one to practice at dinner tonight. ❤️

Holiday invitations are landing. Don't leave people hanging! 🎄

The Friendsgiving text. The office holiday party invitation. Your cousin's cute little digital invitation to her holiday open house.

They're starting to roll in, and before you know it, your calendar is filling up.

Here's your friendly reminder: when someone invites you somewhere, let them know whether you're coming!

I know, I know. You see the invitation, think, Oh, that sounds fun! I'll respond in a minute, and then completely forget about it. We've all been there.

But here's the thing: your host is trying to plan. They need to know how much food to make, how many chairs to set out, and whether they need to make another batch of that dip everyone loves.

And guess what? It's perfectly okay to say no! You don't have to accept every invitation. A quick, kind response is much better than leaving someone wondering whether you'll show up.

My suggestion? Try to respond within 48 hours. If you need more time, that's fine, too. Just let your host know when you'll have an answer.

A little consideration goes a long way, especially during the busy holiday season. ❤️

Now, go check your texts and emails. Is there an invitation you've been meaning to answer? Consider this your nudge! by @poisedproper

Thanksgiving is not the time to teach table manners.

It’s the test.

The teaching happens on a random Tuesday over spaghetti, when nobody is watching and the biggest risk is a spilled cup of milk. Kids don’t suddenly find their manners at Grandma’s table. They find the ones they practiced at yours.

So for the next three weeks, I’m suggesting one skill at a time, at your regular table, with your regular plates. Staying seated. Passing instead of reaching. Asking one person one real question. Then a dress rehearsal the week before, good napkins and all. (Tacos count.)

The full practice plan, with the exact phrases I’d use, is on the blog. Link in bio.

Save this for Tuesday night, and send it to whoever is hosting this year. by @poisedproper

Trick or treat, be sweet. 🎃🍬

Halloween is exciting, but it’s also a pretty great opportunity to practice real-life manners: waiting your turn, saying thank you, respecting other people’s homes, and being considerate of others.

Because even when you’re surrounded by costumes and sugar, good manners still matter. 🧡

That’s exactly what we teach in Magic Manners™, our K–5 social skills and etiquette curriculum.

Grace isn't about being formal, perfect, or walking around like you have a tiny etiquette rulebook in your purse. 😉

It's the way you carry yourself and treat people, especially when things don't go exactly your way. And honestly, Halloween is a pretty good test. 🎃

The costume is fun. The character is temporary. Grace is what you bring with you underneath it all.

Be gracious when someone compliments your costume. Be gracious when the party isn't what you expected. Be gracious when someone spills something, forgets something, or has a little too much Halloween chaos. Because a little grace goes with every outfit. 🖤✨

There's a difference between good behavior and good character.

A child who says “please” because you're standing there has learned the rule. The goal is helping them understand why it matters, even when nobody is watching.

That's where character comes in.

“Character is what you do when you could get away with something else.”

Halloween is a pretty good time to see what they've learned. 🎃

Ask your child tonight: “What do you think good character looks like when nobody is watching?”

Some of the most important skills your child will ever learn won’t be on a test.

How to make friends.

How to handle conflict.

How to set a boundary.

How to communicate clearly.

How to earn trust.

That’s exactly what Social Savvy™ is designed to teach.

It’s the real-life stuff that often gets left out of traditional education, especially the tricky social situations kids are expected to somehow figure out on their own.

Here's a secret about Halloween: it's actually one of the best manners lessons of the year. 🎃

In one night, kids practice greeting strangers, waiting their turn, saying thank you, following directions, and showing self-control when the candy bowl is basically the size of a kiddie pool. 😂

A few Halloween manners to teach before the 31st:

🎃 Say “trick or treat” and “thank you.”
🍬 Take one, or take what you're offered. No digging through the bowl!
🚶 Wait your turn and let the next kid go.
🌿 Stay on the walkway, not the flowerbeds.
🏠 If the porch is dark, keep moving.
💙 If you see a teal pumpkin, remember that non-food treats are treats, too.

And here's the real lesson: manners aren't about being watched. They're about how we choose to behave when nobody is watching.

I've got the full Halloween manners guide on the blog, including tips for older kids and the very important parental candy tax. 😉

We built Poised & Proper™ to make social and etiquette education easier to teach and easier to use. ✨

Magic Manners™ guides students through K–5, building age-appropriate skills year after year.

Social Savvy™ picks up in grades 6–8, tackling the social situations that get more complicated as kids grow.

Both programs are ready-to-teach and delivered through an online platform, with lessons, teacher resources, student materials, activities, and practical tools built in. No starting from scratch. No wondering what to teach next.

And because real life doesn't happen in a textbook, our lessons focus on the moments kids actually experience: friendships, communication, confidence, conflict, kindness, boundaries, and knowing how to carry themselves in the world.

Manners matter most when no one is reminding you to use them. 💛

Here's an etiquette rule I wish more people followed: if someone takes the time to respond to you, respond back.

You asked them a question? They answered? Close the loop.

They put together a proposal for you? You decided not to move forward? Tell them.

You reached out, they made time for a call, sent information, or put together something specifically for you? Don't disappear.

My personal rule is two days. Not two days to have the perfect answer. Two days to acknowledge the person and let them know where things stand.

“Thank you for sending this. I'm still thinking it over and will get back to you next week.”

“We decided to go in a different direction, but I really appreciate your time.”

“I don't have the bandwidth right now, but I'd love to stay in touch.”

That's it. It doesn't have to be polished. It just has to be considerate.

Because silence doesn't keep the door open. It leaves someone standing outside wondering what happened.

If someone took the time to respond to you, take the time to respond to them. That's the whole point.

Real confidence doesn't mean being the loudest person in the room. It means knowing who you are without needing to prove it. 💛

And honestly? The tough social stuff deserves to be taught, too.

That's why we created Social Savvy™ for grades 6-8. It goes beyond “be kind” and “make good choices” to tackle the moments that actually trip kids up: friendship drama, exclusion, gossip, group chats, conflict, communication, boundaries, social pressure, and the awkward situations adults often assume kids will just figure out.

The best part? It's done for you.

Ready-to-teach lessons. Teacher guides. Student materials. Practical activities. Real-world scenarios. No scrambling to figure out what to teach next.

Perfect for schools, homeschool families, counselors, and educators who know these skills matter but don't have the time to build an entire program from scratch.
