A report came in this morning (2/26/26) at 8:00 a.m. regarding a fire at an abandoned building located at 1715 Young Street. When I arrived on scene, HPD had already cleared the area and blocked off all entry points. The call was upgraded to a second alarm at approximately 8:13 a.m., and then to a third alarm at 8:25 a.m. Upon my initial arrival, I witnessed neighbors attempting to fight the fire from the rear of the building using water hoses, as shown in the video. First responders worked quickly to contain the flames, and the fire was officially declared under control at 8:45 a.m. A fire investigator was dispatched to determine the cause, which remains unknown at this time. According to representatives from multiple agencies on scene, there were no reported fatalities. Mahalo to all first responders for your hard work in keeping the area secure and our community safe.
