A little walk down memory lane as I do my daughter’s hair 🥰 it’s been 5 years that I’ve been doing their hair. When we signed up to be foster parents, I did what I thought was enough research. I learned about the LOC/LCO method and thought that would mean I was prepared. Turned out that is just the tip of the iceberg, and I had a lot more to learn! “Parents should know how to care for their child’s hair” isn’t controversial until you mention that the child’s hair texture is different then the parent’s. Then all of sudden it’s- bring them to a Black salon, bring them to a braider. While professionals are an important part of hair care, they don’t absolve parents from learning basic hair care. Especially in cases of voluntary caregiving (foster parents and adoptive parents), learning the basics should be on the checklist off things to do to prepare.
