The shelter is stressful for everyone! Please spay and neuter and if you find kittens, watch for mom and don’t assume they’re abandoned! If kittens look clean and healthy, they almost definitely have a mom watching out for them, so don’t steal them from her! Somewhere on the streets, there is very likely a mama just like this one looking everywhere for her kittens, and because someone brought these kittens in, assuming they were abandoned, now they have a much worse chance of survival as well. Kittens are always best off with their moms, unless it is an actively dangerous situation, you know for sure that mom isn’t around and you’ve looked for her, or the kittens look dirty and skinny or sick, do not kitnap them. It may feel like the compassionate thing to do, but sadly it often results in much more harm than good. Ps. You may think that we should have given these kittens to this mama, but unfortunately that was not possible as mama was already caring for a litter of newborns and it would be very dangerous to mix them due to their underdeveloped immune systems and the lack of knowledge as to what the older kittens may have been exposed to outdoors. #dontkitnapkittens #kittenrescue #animalrescue #adoptdontshop #animalshelters

Around 3 weeks old Lottie developed a loose, lazy latch😂 This happens sometimes at this age and typically coincides with their first teeth erupting (the incisors). So I switched back to feeding with the syringe (with nipple)🍼 Lottie is still latching and actively swallowing, she’s just not sucking as strongly, so I help by slowly depressing the syringe while she’s drinking. I also start adding a small amount of kitten wet food to her formula at this age (1/8 teaspoon added to 1.5 cups of formula). This helps her adjust to the new flavors and helps her GI tract adjust to digesting the new proteins in the food in a slow gradual way, which reduces upset stomach and loose stools once she starts weaning onto wet food in a couple of weeks👏 I also give a probiotic at this age, to support the digestive system in processing the new proteins in the wet food💪 At this age, kittens may be starting to pee and poop on their own. But it’s important to keep stimulating them until you see that they are eliminating independently. So a few times a day, I stimulate Lottie inside her litter box. That way she starts to associate pottying with the litter box and understand how to use it💪 Lottie is gaining weight, meeting her milestones, healthy, happy and thriving!😻 #bottlebabykitten #neonatalkitten #kittenrescue #fosterkitten #explorepage
