Meet your Porter House Review team! 🎉Subramani started writing after journeys through Medicine and Artificial Intelligence. During the pandemic he felt the creative urge to share memories of his life experiences and perceptions of the world around him. He believes that honest storytelling can have a desirable impact on us and the world we live in. His stories and articles have been published/forthcoming in Saranac Review, Apricity Magazine, and Fiction on the Web, among others. He is a second-year MFA fiction candidate at Texas State University, San Marcos and the nonfiction editor of Porter House Review.

Meet your Porter House Review team! 🎉Jessica Awada is a poet and writer from Beirut, Lebanon, which means she has an attachment to the Mediterranean and more than enough material to write about for the foreseeable future! She is a second-year MFA candidate in Poetry at Texas State University and holds a B.A. in English Language and Literature from St. Olaf College.
.
Before becoming Assistant Managing Editor at Porter House Review, Jessica served as the journal's Nonfiction Editor, where she discovered (perhaps a little inconveniently for someone getting an MFA in poetry) that she really, really loves creative nonfiction. She now writes across both genres, exploring the love, grief, exile, resilience, and complicated inheritances embedded in the SWANA region and its histories. Her poetry appears in Vice-Versa, The Rio Review, and, on particularly courageous evenings, your local open mic. She is currently at work on poems and essays about Lebanon, though Lebanon remains stubbornly resistant to being contained by either.
.
📖 Need a reading recommendation? Jessica suggests the following!
*The Message - Ta-Nehisi Coates
*The True True Story of Raja the Gullible (and His Mother) - Rabih Alameddine
*Find Me as the Creature I Am - Emily Jungmin Yoon
*The Book of Delights - Ross Gay

Meet your Porter House Review team! 🎉Nemi writes poetry and creative nonfiction. He has taught creative writing in both elementary and high school. He currently teaches college writing at Texas State University, where he is an MFA candidate in Poetry.
.
Nemi had this to say regarding how he reads poetry for the PHR team: "“We are looking for poetry that makes us stop and listen, poetry with urgency; that can stand the test of time. We seek tenderness and buoyancy in language. We accept experimental poems as well as poems in various forms and a wide range of subjects. Above all, to encounter poetry continuously, to have poetry in one's life at a time like this, is a profound blessing.”
.
📖 Need a reading recommendation? Nemi suggests the following!
*What God in the Kingdom of Bastards by Brian Gyamfi
*Dawn is an open wound by Jide Badmus
*The Seeds by Cecily Parks
*Linguistic justice: Black Language, literacy, identity and pedagogy by April Baker-Bell

Meet your Porter House Review team! 🎉 "I've worn a few different hats in PHR, but my favorite part will always be getting the chance to read so much incredible work. As an editor, I'm always looking for stories with a fresh voice, that do interesting things with structure or POV, and that stick the landing."
