Black Piano. An old song back from when I was in Massachusetts and used to practice in a music school on a bunch of old decrepit uprights. by @portermattesonmusic
When the Rooster Crows at Dawn. An attempt to write a country waltz ended up sounding more like a 60s folk ballad. by @portermattesonmusic

G13. One of my favorite songs to perform. Meta references: 1. The song is in C minor, with the predominant riff based on the C minor 7 chord. 2. All the "G13"s in the chorus are sung over literal G13 chords. 3. "It goes to the fourth" the chord shifts momentarily to the fourth of the scale, F major in the C Dorian mode. 4. "Venture high or go down low" the melody shifts accordingly. 5. "Minor pentatonic blues" the accompanying RH lick is a C minor blues. 6. The first "You left a brighter day" is accompanied by a modulation to major, a "brighter" sound. 7. The two "Oh, you left a brighter day" right before the last line are sung to "the lick," a highly memed riff in the social media jazz community. by @portermattesonmusic
Little Change. One of the closest I've come to writing a love song. by @portermattesonmusic
Child of the 21st Century. Self explanatory - more or less a Gen Z apologetic. I wrote this song when I was 21. by @portermattesonmusic
