POSTS STORIES REELS

A year ago, Noeline made the heartbreaking decision to temporarily part with her beloved Staffy, Ghost. Couch surfing with her two children and facing an uncertain future, she knew it was the safest choice for them all. 💔

Over the months that followed, she worked tirelessly to rebuild their lives. She completed training as a bus driver, secured employment, and eventually found permanent housing for her family.

After eight long months apart, all of that hard work paid off. The final piece of the puzzle fell into place.

Ghost came home.

Noeline admitted she was a little nervous about the reunion. It was a big change for both of them, and she wondered how Ghost would adjust to this new chapter.

But Ghost’s devoted foster carers helped make the transition as smooth as possible, sending Noeline home with pages of notes covering everything from Ghost’s routine and favourite foods to the little quirks they’d discovered over the eight months.

As you can see from these videos, there was nothing to worry about.

Just look at the smiles on everyone’s faces. Ghost’s included.

This is why we do what we do.

Because sometimes, keeping people and pets together doesn’t mean never being apart. It means making sure that, when life gets hard, families have the chance to find their way back to each other.

If you believe that tough times should never mean giving up a furry family member, this is your chance to help.

Our ‘Never Tear Them Apart’ Giving Day is happening on 11 November - and every dollar you donate will be TRIPLED thanks to Scratch and our other generous matching partners.

That’s triple the love. Triple the relief. And triple the hope for families like Ghost’s who need us now more than ever.

No one should ever have to choose between feeding themselves and feeding their beloved pet. ❤️

I’m proud to be an ambassador for Pets of the Homeless, helping keep people and their pets together when times are tough.

On Wednesday 11 November, it’s Never Tear Them Apart Giving Day, and your kindness can go three times as far! Every donation made on the day will be TRIPLED, meaning your generosity will have three times the impact.

The fundraising goal is an incredible $500,000, helping Pets of the Homeless continue their vital work supporting people experiencing homelessness and hardship, and ensuring they don't have to be separated from the pets they love.

Even a small donation can make a big difference when it's tripled. So please consider making a donation on 11 November and help give vulnerable people and their beloved pets the support they need.

Because keeping families together matters. 🐾

I'll pop the donation link in the comments. ❤️

Please share this post and help spread the word. Together, we can make three times the difference! 🐾❤️

Yesterday, interest rates went up. Again.

That's the fifth increase this year, pushing the cash rate to its highest level since November 2008.

The cost of living is hitting hard. And we’re seeing the impact here every single day.

Requests for vet care support are relentless, our foster care waitlists are growing, and pet food is flying off our shelves almost as quickly as we’re restocking them.

And behind every request for help is a person who loves their pet more than anything, but who is struggling to make ends meet. It breaks my heart knowing that, for some, the fear of losing their best friend is becoming all too real.

People are doing it tough. And we're feeling the pressure too.

But I also know what we can achieve when our community comes together.

That's why next Wednesday, November 11, our ‘Never Tear Them Apart’ Giving Day means more than ever.

I know money is tight for so many of us right now, and I don't take a single donation for granted. But especially now, a little bit really does go a long way.

Thanks to some incredibly generous supporters, every dollar you give will be TRIPLED from now until Giving Day.

Whether it's $10, $50 or $100, whatever you can spare will go three times as far to help people and pets who need us.

We're hoping to raise $500,000 - and it's a big goal, especially in these challenging times. But I've seen the kindness and generosity of this community in action, and I know what's possible when we come together.

There's just one week to go. Please save the date, spread the word, or make an early donation here today by commenting "TRIPLE" and I will send you the link.

You can help us ensure no one has to say goodbye to their best friend simply because they’re doing it tough.

With love and kindness,

After Denis, was the victim of a violent assault that left him too traumatised to return home, he and his beloved dog, Roughy, began sleeping in a car together. When that car was stolen and later found damaged beyond repair, they lost the last place they had. 🥺

Denis was able to access temporary accommodation, but his beloved Roughy wasn’t allowed to come with him.

Since January, Roughy has been staying with Justine, one of our incredible foster carers, while Denis has worked tirelessly to find a new home where they can be together again.

It’s been incredibly tough for Denis being apart from his best friend, but to anyone who’s met these two, it’s crystal clear: no amount of time or distance could ever weaken their bond.

Watching them together, knowing their reunion is within reach, reminds us how important it is to keep pets with the people who love them.

Now, you can help ensure more people like Denis, aren’t forced to choose between a roof over their head and their best mate.

Next Wednesday is our Never Tear Them Apart Giving Day, when all donations will be TRIPLED, making your generosity go three times as far.

$As Norma was rushed to hospital, her biggest concern wasn’t for herself, it was for her beloved cat, who was left behind. ❤️‍🩹 Last year, Norma suffered a terrible fall and fractured her hip. Rushed into emergency, she was told she would need surgery, followed by months of rehabilitation and a long hospital stay. She was terrified. As Esmeralda’s only guardian, it meant her precious girl would be home alone, with no one to care for her. Unable to go home and with no one she knew able to step in, Esmeralda was eventually taken to a shelter. From her hospital bed, Norma was overcome with anxiety, fearing she would be forced to surrender her best friend simply because she couldn’t be there. Until she found out about Pets Of The Homeless. In an instant, everything changed. Knowing Esmeralda would be safe and cared for through our foster care program, brought an enormous sense of relief. It meant Norma could focus on what mattered most, her recovery, knowing her girl would still be there when she got out. Imagine the alternative: Being forced to give up your best friend because of an accident. Something completely out of your control. For the next few months, we covered the cost of anything Esmerelda needed. From a vet check and vaccinations, to nutritious food and exciting toys. At the same time, Norma focused on her healing, until the doctors finally cleared her to go home. After 144 days in foster care with us, we reunited Norma with her best friend. The joy from Norma was absolutely infectious as she held her girl for the first time in what felt like forever. Just look at the photos! 🥹 144 days apart. But thanks to people like you, they never had to say goodbye forever. On Wednesday 11 November, it's our Never Tear Them Apart Giving Day, when every dollar donated to Pets Of The Homeless will be TRIPLED! Your kindness helped bring Norma and Esmerelda back together. Now, we're asking you to help us be there for the next person facing the unimaginable. Because sometimes, keeping two best friends together takes a whole community. 🧡 Make an early donation today and triple your impact by commenting "TRIPLE" or clicking on the link below. by @pothaustralia$

Imagine having nowhere to go on a cold night like tonight.

Everything you own packed into a single trolley as you wander from place to place, searching for shelter from the elements. Somewhere you might be able to sleep for a few hours without being moved on.

For Atreyu, that was his reality. Every day was about survival.

Cold nights. Constant uncertainty. Never knowing where he’d sleep. Barely enough money to feed himself, let alone his best mate, Tim.

Atreyu is 60 years old. Voice raw with emotion, he told me he never thought his life would look like that at 60.

I noticed the thick hoodie he was wearing under his coat. The layers upon layers of clothes, which I imagined still wouldn’t be enough to keep him warm on the brutal winter nights.

But I also noticed the way Atreyu’s eyes sparkled when he spoke about his beloved senior boy, Tim.

Tim is his constant companion. His best friend. The one who keeps him going.

Atreyu proudly showed me the trolley contraption he had built. Tucked inside was a crate lined with blankets and covered by a plastic sheet to keep Tim safe, warm and dry.

At 15 years old, Tim is well into his golden years. He’s slower on his feet these days and his cloudy eyes struggle with the darkness, but Atreyu’s devotion has never wavered. No matter what challenges he faces himself, he always puts Tim’s needs first.

Too scared of the violence, substance abuse and unpredictability of rooming houses, Atreyu preferred to sleep in parks and on the streets. When he enquired about public housing, he was told the wait could be up to 17 years.

“We’ll be dead before then,” he joked, but the joke didn’t quite reach his eyes. “I’m just glad my wife isn’t around to see this. She passed away a few years ago.”

Atreyu told me about the nights his belongings had been stolen, having to move constantly to avoid getting into trouble with local councils, and surviving on lentils and rice because that was all he could afford.

One day, while accessing food relief, he asked a volunteer, “Can I please have an extra sausage for my dog?”

“I’m sorry, this food is for people only,” they replied.

“But my dog needs to eat too.”

Would you live in your car for 16 months rather than surrender your beloved dog?

How would you shower? Keep your job? Survive the freezing winter and scorching summer?

For 16 months, that was the reality for Heidi and her human.

With crisis accommodation refusing pets, Heidi's mum chose to live in her car rather than give up her best friend.

But eventually, it became too much. After fighting so hard to stay together, she faced an impossible choice. At 10 years old, Heidi found herself in a shelter.

That's when Kate and Sunanda came into her life.

“She had a lovely retirement,” they told us when they recently visited our HQ.

After 6.5 beautiful years together, Heidi had passed away at 16.

Through tears, they shared stories of their sassy girl. How she helped a child overcome their fear of dogs. How she demanded attention, but only on her terms. How she adored the beach and, even more, her food!

Fried rice, hamburgers, steak nights. Heidi enjoyed all the finer things in life.

Kate laughed as she described Heidi as a “country music-listening, chain smoker. Although, she quit after losing all her teeth...”

But what moved me most was what they shared next.

They often thought about Heidi's first human, and how heartbreaking it must have been to surrender the dog she'd sacrificed so much to keep.

They knew Heidi had been deeply loved, that surrendering her was never a decision made lightly.

So, to honour her memory, they brought Heidi's things and medications to donate, along with a generous gift to help others facing hardship keep their pets.

Their compassion moved me, because this is exactly why we exist.

No one should have to choose between a safe place to sleep and keeping their best friend.

Heidi was lucky. She found 2 extraordinary people who gave her a beautiful second chapter. Sadly, not every senior pet gets that chance.

Kate and Sunanda, thank you for loving Heidi, honouring the human who came before you, and turning your grief into hope.

And to Heidi's first human, wherever you are, we hope life has been kinder to you. We hope you know Heidi lived a happy life surrounded by love.

Fly high over the rainbow bridge, beautiful Heidi. 🌈 by @pothaustralia
