I Listen for the Sound of Ashes 16 min | Nepal/ United States | 2026 | Nepal Premiere Dir. Mihir Pyakuryal I Listen for the Sound of Ashes unfolds through recorded phone conversations between the filmmaker and his parents during a period of political unrest in Nepal. As they speak about fear, memory, and everyday life, the screen holds quiet American landscapes: mountains, clouds, empty fields — places that feel still while everything back home feels unsettled. The film is about distance, but more than that, it’s about relationships: between a son and his parents, between diaspora and homeland, between safety and responsibility. It asks what happens to identity when you live far away from the place that shaped you, and how connection survives across that distance. I Will Be Back with a Pen 22 min | Nepal | 2026 Dir. Deepali Shrestha In the late 1930s, my great grandfather promised to bring my grandmother a pen from his trip to India, but never returned home. Thirty years later, a train that went from my hometown in eastern Nepal to the border town in India also disappeared. My Mum is a Bodybuilder 30 min | Nepal | 2026 Dir. Prashanna Shakya Set within a traditional Newar household in the historic city of Bhaktapur, the film follows Tara, a 42-year-old mother pursuing bodybuilding while navigating the expectations imposed upon women in Nepali society. Filmed through the perspective of her two sons—who become both co-authors and cinematographers of her journey—the documentary begins as an observation of their mother’s unconventional life but gradually evolves into an intimate rediscovery of the woman behind the roles assigned to her. Beyond being a mother, wife, housewife, or athlete, Tara emerges as an individual with her own desires, sacrifices, vulnerabilities, and dreams. Interwoven with reflections on the emotional burdens and societal pressures carried by many Nepali women, the film uses the world of competitive bodybuilding as a deeply personal arena where family, identity, womanhood, and social expectation collide. by @prashannashakyaa
Here’s Part 2 of Tara Didi ko katha Tara Didi ko journey le hamilai Tara Didi bata pauna sakincha. Thank you Tara Didi for inspiring me and so many others through your strength, dedication, and passion. You are truly a Nepali inspiration in female bodybuilding. Salute to Tara didi ! by @prashannashakyaa
यो कथा चाहिँ साँच्चै inspiring छ है… Bringing one of the most inspiring stories of strength and resilience — Tara Suwal Khaiju from Bhaktapur, a woman redefining the rules of sports and bodybuilding in Nepal. Stay tuned for Part 2. by @prashannashakyaa
For Part 2 of this series, we collaborated with @sugarikakc to amplify Tara Suwal’s voice as a bodybuilder and share her story. We created a cross-collab reel on Sugarika ji’s page, featuring footage of both @taratarasuwal didi and Sugarika ji. Here’s the BTS and behind-the-making of the Unstoppable Videos campaign. by @prashannashakyaa
कुनै कुनै हिराहरु प्रकाश बिना नै चम्किन्छन जस्तै UNSTOPPABLE @taratarasuwal I was genuinely taken aback by @taratarasuwal not just by her strength, but by the quiet patience and fierce resilience she carries in every step of her journey. In a space where expectations, stereotypes, and limitations try to define the rules, she chose to challenge all three — herself, society, and the fraternity and rewrite them on her own terms. And the most inspiring part..... She’s not stopping. She’s not slowing down. She’s just getting started. 🔥 Coming soon with her story ☺️ #unstoppable #womensupportingwomen #strengthbeyondlimits #womenwhoinspire by @prashannashakyaa
