This wasn’t praying.
This wasn’t faith.
This wasn’t luck.

This was and still is a choice.

A choice to get up when I didn’t feel like it.
A choice to train when no one was watching.
A choice to keep showing up long after the motivation wore off.

Six miles.
10:22 pace.
An hour of relentless work.

People love to celebrate the result, but they rarely appreciate the thousands of decisions that created it.

Endurance isn’t something you’re born with.
It’s built.

One early morning after another.
One hard workout after another.
One uncomfortable mile after another.
One disciplined decision at a time.

There are no shortcuts. No magic formula.
No faith. No lucky break. No praying to get me through.

Just grit.
Consistency.
Discipline.
And, more importantly, a willingness to work my ass off long after everyone else has quit.

If you want a stronger body, a stronger mind, or a stronger life, stop waiting for the perfect moment.

Show up.
Do the work.
Repeat.

The life you want isn’t found in wishing or praying.
It’s earned through relentless effort.

Grit beats talent when talent refuses to grind.

🏃‍♂️ HALF MARATHON COMPLETE 🏃‍♂️

13.1 miles.

Not just a race, but a reminder of what consistency, discipline, and faith can accomplish.

There were days I didn’t feel like training.
There were early mornings, tired legs, and moments of doubt.

But race day isn’t built on race day. It’s built on every decision you make when nobody is watching.

Whether you’re chasing a PR, crossing your first finish line, or simply proving to yourself that you’re capable of more than you thought, remember this:

👉 Progress beats perfection.
👉 Consistency beats motivation.
👉 Finishing beats quitting.

Every mile is a deposit into the person you’re becoming.

Keep showing up.
Keep putting in the work.
Keep believing in yourself.

Because it’s not just a race…

It’s proof.

Most runners focus on pace, mileage, shoes, or workouts.

But the #1 thing runners forget to do while running?

RELAX.

Tight shoulders. Clenched fists. Tense jaw. Heavy breathing.

The more tension you carry, the more energy you waste.

The best runners know how to stay smooth, calm, and controlled, even when the miles get hard.

Next time you run, do a quick body check:
Relax your shoulders✔
Loosen your hands✔
Control your breathing✔
Let your stride flow naturally✔️

Sometimes running faster starts with learning how to let go.

Today’s run wasn’t just for my training.
It was for gratitude.

Memorial Day isn’t about a long weekend.

It’s about remembering the men and women who gave everything so we could live freely, raise our families, chase our goals, and wake up to mornings like this.

Let me repeat.
Today’s run wasn’t just for my training.
It was for gratitude.

For every soldier who never made it home.
For every family carrying an empty seat at the table.
For every sacrifice most people will never fully understand.

Freedom was paid for by someone else’s courage.

Run with purpose.
Live with gratitude.
Never forget. 🇺🇸 by @precision.performance.running

People think running is about speed, medals, or records.

But running isn’t measured in numbers.

It’s about the fight against yourself.
It’s about chasing the edge of pain until the mind goes quiet.
It’s about chasing a feeling that only a few truly understand.

Running exposes you.

It strips away the excuses.
The ego.
The comfort.

What’s left is who you really are when things get hard.

That’s why we run:
To test the edge of who we are.

After a marathon, your body is not just “tired.” It is actually working through controlled trauma, dehydration, inflammation, muscle breakdown, glycogen depletion, nervous system fatigue, and hormonal stress all at once.

That’s why recovery is not optional.
Recovery IS training.

The marathon may only last a few hours…
But the recovery process can take several weeks.

Your muscles experience thousands of impact contractions over 26.2 miles. Tiny tears form in muscle fibers, glycogen stores become depleted, cortisol levels rise, inflammation increases, and fluid balance gets thrown off from sodium loss and heavy sweating.

That exhausted feeling after crossing the finish line is your body saying:
“We survived. Now rebuild me.”

Here is what proper marathon recovery should look like:

Day 1 to 3
Focus on:
• Hydration with electrolytes
• Easy walking only
• High quality carbs and protein
• Sleep
• Light mobility work

This is when swelling, soreness, bloating, fatigue, and even mood swings can hit hard.

Day 4 to 7
Focus on:
• Easy movement
• Stretching
• Foam rolling
• Short recovery runs ONLY if your body feels ready
• Continued hydration and protein intake

Most runners make the mistake of jumping back too soon.
Your cardiovascular system may feel recovered before your muscles, joints, and nervous system actually are.

Week 2 to 3
Your body is still repairing:
• Muscle tissue
• Connective tissue
• Hormonal balance
• Glycogen storage
• Nervous system fatigue

This is where patience matters.

The strongest runners are not the ones who train the hardest.
The strongest runners are the ones who recover the smartest.

Recovery is where adaptation happens.
Recovery is where strength is rebuilt.
Recovery is where your next PR begins.

Respect the process.

Your body just carried you 26.2 miles.
Take care of it accordingly.

What is YOUR biggest struggle after a marathon? Fatigue, soreness, swelling, appetite, sleep, or motivation?

Today is marathon race day at the Ogden Marathon. My mental notes what I’m speaking to myself about to get a new personal record;

Months of early mornings, long runs, tired legs, discipline, recovery, fueling, and mental preparation all lead to this moment.

The work is done.

Now it’s time to trust the training and execute the plan.

A few key marathon tips that can make a huge difference today:

Start slower than you feel. The excitement at the starting line can trick you into burning energy too early. Stay patient during the first few miles and let the race come to you.

Stick to your fueling plan. Do not wait until you feel drained to take nutrition or fluids. Stay ahead of dehydration and energy loss.

Run your mile, not someone else’s. There will always be runners taking off too fast early on. Stay locked into YOUR pace and YOUR strategy.

Break the race into sections mentally. Do not think about all 26.2 miles at once. Focus on getting to the next aid station, the next mile marker, or the next checkpoint.

When the hard miles come, remember why you started. Marathon running is just as mental as it is physical. Stay positive, stay controlled, and keep moving forward.

Most importantly, enjoy the experience. Not everyone is willing to do hard things. You earned the right to be here.

Mentally and physically, I’m ready. Let’s go chase greatness today.

Update to follow after the race!

One bad night of sleep before race day will NOT ruin your performance.

Most runners panic if they toss and turn the night before a marathon or big race. But the truth is this:

The sleep that matters most is the sleep you get during the entire week leading up to race day.

Your body does not suddenly lose fitness overnight because you were nervous or excited before the race.

Adrenaline will kick in.
Your training is already done.

What matters now is staying calm, hydrated, fueled, and confident.

Instead of stressing about perfect sleep the night before, focus on:
• Consistent sleep all week
• Proper hydration and electrolytes
• Carb loading correctly
• Staying off your feet as much as possible
• Keeping your mind relaxed and positive

Trust your training. Trust the process. And remember that thousands of runners have gone on to PR after a restless night before race day.

Hill workouts expose runners to one of the biggest mental traps in training: comparing pace.

The truth is this your pace on hills is supposed to slow down. That does not mean you are out of shape. It means your body is working against gravity and building strength that flat roads cannot give you.

When you run hills, focus less on the number on your watch and more on effort, posture, cadence, and staying controlled.

Hills are designed to build power, endurance, mental toughness, and running economy.

If you judge your fitness only by pace during hill sessions, you will miss the entire purpose of the workout.

Strong runners understand this:
Effort matters more than pace when the terrain changes.

Stay relaxed. Drive your arms. Keep your stride quick and controlled. Then trust the process.

The runners who embrace hill workouts are usually the runners who get stronger late in races.

Most runners think speed comes from taking longer strides.

In reality, overstriding is one of the biggest things that can slow you down and increase your risk of injury.

A strong cadence helps you run more efficiently by keeping your feet landing closer to your body, reducing braking forces, and improving rhythm and momentum.

Instead of trying to “reach” with every step, focus on quick, controlled turnover.

Small improvements in cadence can lead to smoother runs, better endurance, and faster race times over the long haul.

Here’s a simple tip to try on your next run:

✅ Relax your shoulders
✅ Keep your steps light
✅ Focus on quick feet, not giant strides
✅ Let speed come naturally from efficiency

Remember, efficient runners are usually faster runners.

Heavy legs don’t always mean you’re failing.

Sometimes they mean your body is adapting, rebuilding, and getting stronger.

Every runner goes through days where the legs feel flat, tired, or sluggish. Don’t panic and don’t immediately assume you’re losing fitness.

Training fatigue is part of the process, especially when you’re putting in consistent work.

The key is learning the difference between normal fatigue and true injury.

Most of the time, your body just needs recovery, hydration, fuel, and patience.

Keep showing up.
Keep stacking the miles.
Progress doesn’t always feel good while it’s happening.

What’s your go-to strategy when your legs feel heavy during training?
