About last night. This one is incredibly special. It’s my first-ever 1st place trophy 🏆 for a broadcast news piece. My show @ltveastendnews has been around only a little over a year, and we were competing with giants like News12 and Newsday. (Both fine media organizations that I have been watching/reading and appreciating since I was little. I learned from the best!) East End News took home 2 of the 3 awards given in the Health/Science/Technology TV category. We also got a second-place award in Education and a third-place award in Government. In the narrative (print) division, I also won a first place award in Real Estate for @east_mag and a third-place award for a sports piece I did while filling in at the @easthamptonstar last fall. Going into TV news has been the biggest career leap I’ve taken in quite some time, but still having one foot in the print world and receiving awards in both formats is one helluva W. I also was recognized by @pressclubofli as co-coordinator of the Greene Team (@greenegazette) at Stony Brook University, which received the brand new PCLI Spotlight Award. And to boot, the wonderful @jason_nower was by my side for it, and bought me a late-night snack on ride home. I am filled with gratitude. I loved celebrating the #LongIsland journalism community. And I am inspired to keep telling stories. Does anyone in this business use this hashtag anymore? Let’s bring it back, and keep it going. #partylikeajournalist #neverstopneverstopping #ilovemyjob by @pressclubofli

So many awards! The preparations have been underway for our Press Club awards for months but now it’s crunch time! Thanks to @pennyredstar for the help today. We spent hours organizing and numbering the first-place winners. We used a new vendor this year and the awards are beautiful. We’re so excited for everyone to see them on Thursday at our dinner. #PCLI #PressClubOfLongIsland @pressclubofli by @pressclubofli

The Press Club of Long Island is pleased to announce a new award, the PCLI Spotlight Award, which illuminates work impacting the vitality and longevity of the Long Island journalism community. The inaugural award recognizes the Robert W. Greene Summer Institute for High School Journalists. Established in 2009, this program welcomes budding student reporters to Stony Brook University for a weeklong intensive inspired by the legacy of Bob Greene. The late journalist and editor led Newsday's investigative team to Pulitzers in 1970 and 1974 and went on to teach at Stony Brook and Hofstra University. Alumni of the Greene Institute have gone on to meaningful careers at news outlets like CBS News and its affiliates, Newsday, the Council on Foreign Affairs, Newsweek, The Suffolk Times and The Southampton Press. by @pressclubofli
