POSTS STORIES REELS
This one is a little extra special for me. As part of our We Saved You a Seat series, I had the opportunity to share the story of my sister-in-law, Jeanny. One of the things I love about this project is getting to hear how different people see Saskatoon and what this city means to them. For @high_heeled_explorer, it's sunshine. Not just the sunshine we get here, but the happiness, connection and sense of being alive that comes from the people and experiences around us. I also love her perspective on success. It's not about how much money you make or what title you hold. It's about being happy, finding contentment and living life to the fullest. And perhaps my favourite takeaway from her story is a simple reminder to never stop exploring. To keep stepping outside our comfort zones, trying new things and discovering what we're capable of. Getting to tell stories like this, especially about people close to me, is a big part of why I love what I do. Thanks for sharing your story, Jeanny! Another fun one from the @discoversaskatoon We Saved You a Seat campaign! This one was a special one as we were able to explore so many incredible gems in the city and meet some pretty amazing people along the way. From @shakespearesask and @parktownhotel to @blackfox_farm, @jillianrossprint, and the future home of Saskatoon's community theatre at the @caswell.bus.barns, we got a chance to see just how much creativity, passion, and community exists right here in our own backyard. One of my favourite things about this project has been hearing how people connect with the places they call home. It's a reminder that you don't always have to travel far to experience something new. Sometimes it's simply about getting out, exploring somewhere you haven't been, and being open to the people you meet along the way. There's so much happening in this city, and so many incredible people helping shape it. Special shout-out to @mlemonache for all her help on the project!! A big thank you to everyone who welcomed us in and shared a little piece of their world with us! A huge fan of these @nikoncanada Monarch HG 10x42 binoculars. It's one of those things in your kit that lasts a lifetime. Can't wait to put them to work. by @prestonkanak
Sometimes it takes exploring the world to appreciate what you have right in front of you. I really enjoyed getting to know @janamebillie while creating this film for the We Saved You a Seat campaign. Born and raised in Saskatoon, Jana spent 26 years running her family's flower shop on Broadway after stepping in to help her mom. What wasn't originally part of her plan became some of the best years of her life. Now retired, she's embracing travel, pushing herself outside her comfort zone and experiencing different cultures around the world. But what I really loved about her story was how all that exploring has only deepened her appreciation for home. There's something about travelling that changes the way you see things. You experience different ways of living, meet new people and come home with a different perspective on the place you've always known. And sometimes you realize just how much that place means to you. As Jana puts it, "Saskatoon is where my family is. It's where I belong. It is home." Another story from our We Saved You a Seat series with @discoversaskatoon. Sometimes it's nice to strip things back when making a film. Sometimes it's enough to just appreciate a place for what it is and let the visuals breathe. Two places I really enjoyed capturing for We Saved You a Seat were The Night Oven and Wanuskewin. @thenightoven is such a unique part of Saskatoon. I had the chance to work with them years ago on @flatoutfoodseries, back in their old space, so it was fun to return and see how things have evolved. I've always appreciated the care and craft behind what they do. There's so much character in the space, the process and the people. And then there's @wanuskewin. A place I've had the opportunity to film many times over the years, but one that never seems to lose its impact. The history, the landscape, and the stories connected to that land make it an incredibly special place, not just for Saskatoon, but well beyond it. Two very different places, each with something unique to offer. For this piece, I wanted to keep things simple. No voiceover, no interviews, no need to explain everything. Just an opportunity to spend a little time in these spaces and appreciate what makes them special. Captured on the @nikoncanada @nikonusa ZR. by @prestonkanak
Sometimes we get so caught up in the routines of everyday life that we forget to explore what's right in front of us. We travel to new places with curiosity, taking the time to wander, discover and experience everything they have to offer. But how often do we approach our own city with that same sense of wonder? This film follows two people who genuinely love Saskatoon. People who remind us that you don't always have to travel far to experience something new. Sometimes it's simply about slowing down, looking a little closer and becoming a tourist in your own city. There's a lot to discover when you take the time to look. Earlier this year, I had a chance to play and create something a bit different. This wasn’t part of "the ask" for the We Saved You a Seat campaign. I just wanted to have some fun, get the client and crew involved on camera, and make something a little different. We shot this film over a few hours one day and it ended up being a ton of fun to make. It brought out the kid in me and was a good reminder that sometimes stepping outside the box and trying something different is what it’s all about. Not worrying about the polish. Not chasing the snappiest edits. Just playing in the sandbox and seeing what comes out of it. As I look back on this, sure, the edit could be better, the shots could be better but that really isn't what it was about. It was about finding ways to get creative in new ways and just.... play. Like I used to. Definitely an approach I want to explore more in new work. Just something different. It doesn't really matter if it hits the portfolio. That really isn't the point. Gear prep day. Feels the same as it did ten years ago. Small lessons you never lose. This concept is refreshing. A slight change from typical tourism spots, which I love. Can’t wait. by @prestonkanak

Tomorrow is a lie. Here me out....... Traveling back in time to when I made a film a day. That season of life changed me more than I understood at the time. Looking back now, I see a younger version of myself — someone standing at the edge of a life he could only barely imagine. There was a kind of quiet hope there. A belief that adventure was possible if I just kept moving. The films themselves weren’t the point. Most of them were rough. Some were confusing. A few worked. But every day I picked up the camera and made something. And somewhere along the way, that daily act started to shift the way I thought about time. We spend so much of our lives waiting for “later.” Waiting for the right moment. Waiting for things to line up. But making something every day slowly teaches you something different. It teaches you that the future isn’t where life begins. Life begins the moment you decide to start. Sixteen years later, that lesson still echoes. I wrote a reflection recently about that idea — about why I’ve come to believe that tomorrow is a lie. If you're curious, I've added a link to the article in my profile. And here’s one of the films from that time in my life. by @prestonkanak
