This is a tighter cut of my Pre-Game Activation Program — what you should do before a skate.

Start on the bike to raise core temperature and blood flow. Then the Founder hold — a posterior-chain hip hinge that sets spinal position — and its single-leg progression. Banded pelvic tilts for pelvic and lumbar control and early core activation. Banded pull-throughs to load and explode through the posterior chain. Cossack squats for lateral strength that transfers to edge work. A modified airplane for hip hinge and single-leg control. Hip rotation on a slider for the rotators you use every stride. Finish with speed hops — brief, high-intensity hops that can temporarily raise neuromuscular readiness. That's often called post-activation performance enhancement. Keep that piece short so you feel sharp without adding fatigue.

Research on warm-ups supports pairing a light cardio open, hinge and activation work, and a little reactive effort before higher-intensity play.

"Shockwave" sounds a lot scarier than it is.

There's no electricity involved. The "shock" is a pressure wave: a handheld device sends quick pulses of sound energy into the tissue under the skin. Most people describe it as a tapping or thumping feeling, and a session usually takes 5 to 15 minutes.

It's most often used for tendon pain that has hung around for months, like plantar fasciitis in the heel, Achilles tendinopathy, or tennis elbow. It's usually done as a course of 3 to 5 sessions about a week apart, alongside hands-on care and rehab exercises rather than on its own. Feeling a bit sore for a day or two afterward is common.

It isn't the right fit for everyone, so it always starts with an assessment and a look at your health history. Our chiropractors and physiotherapists both offer it here in Pandosy Village.

Coming in for your first visit? Here's how to find us 📍

We're in Pandosy Village at #202-3030 Pandosy St. Look up for the Pro Motion sign. We're on the second floor, and there's an elevator if you'd rather skip the stairs.

Parking is on-site, and we're right on a major bus route. If you're coming from downtown, it's a quick drive south on Pandosy. From West Kelowna, cross the bridge and head south on Pandosy. And if you're close by, it's a short walk from Pandosy Waterfront Park.

We're open Monday to Thursday 8 AM to 7 PM, Friday 8 AM to 5 PM, and Saturday 9 AM to 3 PM. Wear comfortable clothes you can move in, and our front desk will help you get settled.

Chiropractic, physiotherapy, massage therapy and kinesiology, all under one roof. No referral needed. You can book through the link in our bio.

Get to know Dr. Tait Cuthill, DC 👋

Tait was born on the BC coast and came to the Okanagan for the outdoor community and the active lifestyle. Sport has been a big part of his life since he was a kid, and that's what led him to sports medicine.

He studied kinesiology at UBCO, where he was a varsity athlete, then graduated with honours from the Canadian Memorial Chiropractic College in Toronto. He has treated patients in both private clinics and a rehabilitation hospital.

His interest in injury care actually started when he was a patient himself, getting treated for his own sport injuries. So he knows what it's like to be on the other side of the table.

In the clinic, Tait uses Functional Range Conditioning, instrument-assisted soft tissue work, shockwave therapy and Dynamic Neuromuscular Stabilization. He's also big on clear communication. He'll walk you through what's going on and make you part of the decisions about your treatment plan.

When he's not at the clinic, you'll find him skiing the local mountains, chasing a 10 km PB along the Kelowna boardwalk, playing soccer, or trying somewhere new to eat around the valley.

Want to work with Tait? You can book through the link in our bio.

Chiropractic, physiotherapy, massage therapy and kinesiology, all under one roof in Pandosy Village.

Chiropractic: hands-on treatment combined with exercise rehab, education, and tools like shockwave when they help. You should leave knowing what's going on and what to do about it, not just with a quick adjustment.

Physiotherapy: we look at how you move to find why something hurts. Sometimes a sore knee starts at the hip. Treatment is hands-on work plus exercises you take home.

Massage therapy: our registered massage therapists work on muscles, tendons and ligaments for tension, back pain, headaches, sports injuries and recovery after surgery.

Kinesiology: exercise-based programs built around how your body moves. We teach you what to do, watch your form, and progress the plan as you get stronger.

Every appointment is one-on-one, and when it helps, your practitioner works with the rest of the team so your plan stays connected.

Groin strains. Every hockey season, without fail.

Skating puts a ton of load on your adductors. They pull your leg back in after every push, and they keep your hips steady through crossovers and stops.

If they're stiff or weak, they're usually the first thing to go.

This is one I give a lot of skaters to warm them up:

Half-kneel with one knee down. Other leg straight out to the side.
Reach your inside hand down toward that foot.
Slowly rock toward that toe, breathe out on the way down, then come back.
Go slow and stay in control.

6–8 reps per leg, a couple of sets before you hit the ice.

Save this for your next warm-up, or send it to the teammate who's always tweaking a groin 👀

ROCKFLOSS X HOCKEY

Hockey demands a lot from the body.

Deep hip and ankle angles.
Repeated accelerations.
Hard stops and starts.
Rotational shooting.
Contact.
Shift after shift.

When mobility is limited, your body has to find another way to create the movement.

That’s where RockFloss from RockTape can be useful.

RockFloss combines compression with active movement. Used as part of a warm-up or mobility routine, it can temporarily change how a joint or tissue feels and moves.

For hockey, we commonly think about:

Ankle + calf → getting into deeper skating positions
Hip → improving access to rotation and flexion
Quad → preparing for repeated skating demands
Shoulder → preparing for shooting and contact
Adductors/groin → supporting lateral skating movements

The important part?

Don’t just floss. Move while you floss.

The combination of compression + controlled movement gives you an opportunity to explore a new range of motion immediately.

It’s not a magic fix.
It’s not a replacement for rehab.
And it doesn’t “break up scar tissue.”

It’s simply another tool in the toolbox to help an athlete prepare the body to move.

For hockey players, that can mean better access to the positions you repeatedly need on the ice.

Better movement starts before you step on the ice.

Why tall athletes break down differently.

Longer levers magnify small movement losses.

From a biomechanics standpoint, longer limbs increase the distance between a joint and the force acting on it. That means the same small change in position can create larger rotational demands and compensations through the kinetic chain.

For taller athletes, small losses in ankle mobility, hip control, pelvic position or trunk stability can therefore become much more noticeable as movement travels up the chain.

That’s why we focus on:
• Joint position
• Stability & mobility
• Single-leg control
• Proprioception
• Efficient movement patterns

Small issues become big fast.

Thoracic Spine Extension for Hockey

Hockey players spend a lot of time in a flexed position, so maintaining thoracic extension and mobility is key for getting into stronger positions on the ice.

This simple T-spine extension with a dowel is an easy way to work on opening up the upper back and improving extension.

Adding RockTape thoracic taping and diagram work can also help reinforce that movement by providing proprioceptive/postural cueing — giving the athlete a tactile reminder to open through the chest and maintain a better posture.

Simple mobility + good cueing = better movement. 💪
