Good Framing Isn’t About Following Rules. It’s About Knowing What You Want the Viewer to Feel.

The rule of thirds creates natural tension, breathing room, and a more conversational look, while centered framing puts all attention directly on the subject. That’s why thirds often work beautifully for interviews, while a centered close-up can make a key statement or CTA hit much harder. The strongest productions don’t pick one style and stick with it—they use composition intentionally based on the moment, the platform, and the message. Sometimes the smartest move is framing wide for the conversation, then punching in when there’s one line you absolutely want the audience to remember.

At PS Creative, we make those decisions for you so every shot is doing more than just looking good—it’s helping tell the story.

Distance Shouldn’t Decide the Quality of Your Podcast.

A remote interview shouldn’t automatically look or sound like a standard video call. At PS Creative Studios, we record remote sessions through Riverside, which captures each participant locally in full resolution instead of relying entirely on a compressed live stream. That means cleaner audio, sharper video, fewer connection-related artifacts, and far more flexibility in post-production.

Your guest can be across the country or across the world while you stay in-studio with the same lighting, cameras, and production environment we use for an in-person session. The result is a remote conversation that still feels polished, consistent, and built for professional distribution. You focus on the interview—we’ll make sure the distance doesn’t show up in the final product.

Clipping Is One of the Fastest Ways to Ruin Otherwise Great Footage.

Most distortion issues aren’t caused by the microphone—they happen because the input levels were never set correctly in the first place. Proper gain staging gives your loudest moments enough headroom to stay safely below 0 dB, where digital clipping becomes permanent and impossible to truly recover. That’s why we test the talent at their loudest expected volume, watch the meters, and leave room instead of trying to record everything as hot as possible. You can always raise clean audio later, but once a signal is clipped, that information is gone. A quick level check before recording can prevent an entire take from becoming unusable.

At PS Creative, your producer handles those details on set so you can focus on the performance instead of the meters.

This is the first studio we ever built... AND I thought it looked amazing. 😜

We opened it in 2020, which was its own chaotic adventure, but honestly, I was so proud of this geometric mess that Kendal and I hand painted (with the help of a very talented friend). The IKEA furniture, the box lights, the Kirkland water bottles, the color choices... I CRINGE now, but at the time every one of those felt like a great idea. 🤣

Looking back, we were the first podcast studio in AZ to offer video instead of just audio, and we had no clue what we were doing. (I distinctly remember watching endless YT videos on how to setup a camera while Kendal took classes on how to master the back-end of YT publishing)

We've all learned a lot since then, and obviously gained some much-needed taste. But I’m sharing this because we all have to start somewhere, and for us in the content creation space, this was the start. It was REALLY ugly, but if we’d never done it, we never would have grown into the #1 ranked studio in Arizona (2023 to 2026).

So I’m glad I kept this photo. It’s a good reminder that taste isn’t something you’re born with. You build it, mostly by getting things wrong first. 👀

And the most important thing you can do in any business is just get started.

There Is No “Best” Microphone—Only the Right One for the Shot.

A lav mic makes sense when your subject needs freedom to move, a shotgun mic gives you directional control in a more contained setup, and a USB mic keeps things simple when the talent is staying put at a desk. The trouble starts when equipment gets chosen because it’s expensive or popular instead of because it fits the production. Put a stationary mic on a moving setup and suddenly you’re chasing inconsistent levels, clothing noise, footsteps, or limitations that should have been solved before filming started. Knowing the scene, the movement, and the pickup pattern ahead of time can save an entire reshoot.

That’s the difference between owning gear and knowing how to build a production around it—and at PS Creative, we handle that decision before the cameras roll.

Before You Upgrade Your Microphone, Listen to Your Room.

A microphone doesn’t know which sounds you want and which ones you don’t—it captures the voice along with everything the room throws back at it. That’s why reflective spaces can make even expensive gear sound amateur, while the right acoustic treatment can make a much simpler setup sound polished. Absorptive panels, soft furnishings, and intentional placement aren’t decoration; they’re part of the audio system. Great sound is built by controlling what reaches the microphone before you start fixing anything in post.

We design PS Creative Studios around that principle, because professional production begins with the environment—not the equipment list.

Your $1,000 Microphone Can Still Sound Cheap.

People love upgrading microphones when the real problem is often the room they’re recording in. Hard walls, windows, and bare floors send sound bouncing straight back into the mic, creating that hollow, boxy quality no price tag can fix. Think about speaking in a furnished living room versus an empty tiled bathroom—the voice didn’t change, but the acoustics completely did.

That’s why we prioritize absorption, room treatment, and controlling reflections before worrying about what microphone goes on the stand. A properly treated studio lets the equipment actually do what it was designed to do. At PS Creative Studios, that work is already done before you walk through the door.

Your Identity Can Become Your Prison.

There’s ambition in saying, “I have to be an entrepreneur,” but there’s danger when that label becomes the measure of your worth. A full-time job, a change in direction, or a season that doesn’t match the picture in your head doesn’t automatically mean you failed—it may be teaching you something you couldn’t learn otherwise. When you grip one identity too tightly, you can become blind to opportunities that could actually move you forward. Build toward what you want without making one title responsible for proving who you are.
